Leaking Tranny Fluid from the axle

I'm not very tech savy when it comse to transmissions but basically I spotted some tranny fluid on the subframe when I had the car up on jackstands... It appeared to be leaking trans fluid from the axle so I removed it and this is what I found...

It appears the "metal ring" where the axle is inserted into the trans, is mis-shapen (oval shaped rather than round).

I have no idea how this happens, and i'm told these rings are very very strong and very very hard to bend. I have solid motor mounts, trans mounts and control arm bushings so I don't really get 'wheel hop'.

anyone have input?

energy has to go somewhere, the more power you had, the more likely you are to find "weak links"
