LSJ vs LNF Tranny
LSJ vs LNF Tranny
Has anybody noticed that the LSJ tranny is much smoother to shift than the ones in the LNF. I know they're not identical, but the only difference is the final drive ratio. That should'nt affect the feel of the shifter...
Could it be the stock short shifter itself in the LNFs causing uber roughness? Maybe I should throw in a stock SC shifter to see how it feels. Has anybody tried this?

Sounds like you need to adjust your shifter cables.
I'm pretty sure the shifters themselves are the same, cable holder is a little different with the LNF its stronger and LSJ guys use the LNF part.

I was looking at buying that revised bracket from CED along with a slu of other parts. For less than 30 bucks too.
I've done all that. The two SS/SC's I've owned have a fundamentally different feel in the shifter. They feel more like a Honda shifter while my SS/TC's feel more like a... Chevy
Same goes for the F23 in my LT, its notchier than a jagged saw blade.
I recalling reading a FAQ on here which states the SS/TC comes from factory with a short shifter. Better verify by looking at part numbers.
Edit: yup they're different 25815049 for the LSJ, 20763152 for the lnf. The shift cables are different too 10383794(lsj) vs 25798498(lnf)

The LNF uses a different shifter bracket. I put the LNF one on my LSJ, and felt more direct communication between the trans and shifter. The LSJ one makes it feel more smooth and sloppy.

The difference between the SS/SC shift cable bracket and SS/TC is the SS/TC's is solid, and the SS/SC has rubber bushings which can cause a vague feel while shifting.
Neither bracket is "stronger" than the other though.
I just installed the SS/TC shift cable bracket and solid base bushings and the shifter def feels tighter and more direct. Nothing cray cray though.
Both cars technically have a "short throw" shifter compared to the base models, and that is kinda what Chevy was prob getting at. They are not as short as aftermarket of course.
I know the SS/SC's throws were reduced from the Saabs when it first came out.
