This might be a nice 6 speed

GM uses an Asin 6 speed manual in the Pontiac G6 GXP--and no where else in GM. I wonder how well it would fit? Seems to be a bit more spread betwee gears though. Higher torque capacity, possibility better mileage with that tall 6th gear.

Saab 5 speed Asin 6 speed

3.38 3.77
1.76 2.04
1.18 1.32
0.89 0.95
0.70 0.76
0.62

Saab appears to use a version of the RPO code F40 6 speed.

Saab cars come with a 6-speed manual that appears to have absolutely no problems mating to our block nor lining up with the driveshaft angles/lengths.

They make our tranny in a 6 speed version - the catch - it was only sold on 9-3s in Canada

We share the ecotec engine with SAAB . Well , variations of anyways . They are all family II eco engines . Euro ecotec's are family 1 .

Avro - did u come across any dimentions ? I like the 1st gear ratio too . Adding more power to these cars , the smaller 1st gear ratio would actually be beneficial . Do you know what the axle ratio is ?

Has anyone looked at the Opel Astra? I think it has a 6 speed mated to the turbo 2.0.

EDIT: I meant the Vauxhall Astra VXR, but I can't find gear ratios for either one.
