Need some advice asap

Hey guys. Im in the process of looking for a 2008 or 2009 cobalt ss. For some reason General Motors cant find one with an LSD in it. Should i keep waiting to try and find one or should i just tell them to find me one without an LSD and later down the road pay for one to get installed? Is an LSD really needed? i wanna get about 360hp out of her. Please need advice!

Is it 100% necessary? No. I have been driving without for 2 years and couldnt' tell you the difference except for in the snow.

Don't waste your money getting one installed. It's expensive as hell.

If you AutoX, drive curvy roads fast, or anything with heavy cornering, then find one with LSD, if not, buy a car at a great price and move on.

Stock the car is going to pull, regardless of LSD or not. LSD helps a little, but not that much of a difference if that is all you are worried about. Like it was said, unless you are going to be AutoX or taking alot of fast corners it won't be noticable.

Odd, I'm having the same problem! I have a dealer looking for a SS Coupe with LSD, and he says they're hard to find. I don't want to tell him to find one without the LSD, because I'm in Michigan and we've been known to get snow in June, lol. Do traction control, ESC, and ABS pretty much make up for LSD in non-track situations? I mean, if the roads are slippery, I'm not going to be driving like I'm at the track...but I'd rather have the security of LSD, if it helps in slippery conditions.

I put a turbo in my old 2002 Ford ZX2, and I really should've put an LSD in as well. Tires lasted about 20K miles; I think it just had way too much power for the stock diff. But I never got the chance to try that car, a non-LSD turbo, in wintry conditions, so I don't know if it would've mattered or not!

A non LSD SS will smoke both tires in a straight line. LSD helps in cornering applications, then they both spin & you go straight anyway. lol.

Torque steer when tuned is a beast until you go with the OTTP rotated (almost solid) trans mounts.

No kidding! I've had them looking since January, but I've been looking myself since October last year. I told them find me an '09, but I'd take an '08 with low miles. I have a feeling that there are more 2010 models with the LSD, but 1) there are even fewer 2010s for sale than prior years, and 2) I can't afford a 2010!

This is driving me nuts. I spent ages trying to decide on what car I could afford and would enjoy driving, finally settled on the SS Coupe, and now I can't find one with the LSD. Meanwhile, my beater gets worse every day. I hate the thought of being forced into a situation where I HAVE to buy a car, which is why I'm driving this piece of junk...if I have to spend $$$ on another cheap car, it pretty much means I'll have to save for another year in order to buy a car I really want. That's another year driving something I don't enjoy.

I finally caved and went to the dealer because I thought they'd have an easier time finding what I want. I don't know if they're telling me the truth and '08-'09 Coupes with the LSD -are- really hard to find, or if they're not really even looking because I'm not a high $$$ buyer. If I had them looking for a $50K Cadillac STS, I'd probably have one within the week.

I'm seriously considering visiting another GM dealership in my own town; not as big as the one I originally went to, but I wonder if they'd work a little harder to get my business.
