In NEEDS of a tranny

I cracked my bell housing where the front mount hooks up and now I can hear it rattle and shake. I am in needs of a new tranny or do they sell bell housings at the dealer or would I have to get a whole new tranny in general? I need an F35 with LSD preferably, or without the LSD. Anyone know anyone please let them know I need one.

bump before bed.

If you end up needing a whole tranny, look at it as an opportunity to upgrade to the 6-speed F40. See if you can track one down from a Saab 9-3.

It was welded and the weld broke on Monday. So if it broke it probably just going to keep breaking. I was going to see if our tranny comes apart and buy a new bell housing piece. Would our car be able to bolt up with the F40 tranny?

Intresting....
I wasn't aware of this option. Do you have any more info/links?

I don't have a whole lot of info for you, and I'm not aware of anyone who has actually done it. There has been a little bit of talk around here about it though about whether it's worth the effort. What I do know is that with the exception of a few linkages, it's a drop in replacement for the F35. The F40 directly replaced the F35 in Saab 9-3s from 2007 onward.

I test drove one and it shifts nicer and smoother than any F35 equipped Cobalt I ever drove (I've driven four). Gear ratios are also the same as Getrag's F35 6-speed upgrade kit. Saab never offered LSD as an option though, but Getrag sells an aftermarket one for it. If you're rebuilding or installing a new tranny, you might as well get it while you're at it.

There's also a version of the F40 that's in the Pontiac G6 as well, but it's different enough that it won't fit our 'balts. There was also supposedly some sort of grinding issue with those ones, so avoid it.
