new slave cylinder problems

had a slow day at work today so i decided to swap my clutch. i had a brand new gmpp clutch kit, complete with lnf slave cylinder. got the car all back together, gravity bled the clutch, pumped the pedal a few times and it felt fine, then all the sudden it went soft. upon looking under the car i found a stream of brake fluid flowing out of the bellhousing. pulled the tranny back out and found the slave cyl was pouring fluid out the front of it. ended up having to order a new slave from the local dealer, my shop cost was $170 (gm canada rapes everyone). got it all together and everything was fine, bled the clutch and it was fine.

ive read about people having this problem before, any idea as to why it happens? or did i just get a defective slave?
