Newbie needs tranny help.

This is my first post to the forums and in dire need of some help.

I recently purchased an 06 Cobalt LS with the 2.2 and automatic transmission.

Yesterday I replaced the pads/rotors, sway bar links, sway bar bushings, and struts, and changed the oil.

When I took the car off the jack, it would only go in reverse at about 3500RPM and it was like a turtle. I backed out of the drive and it was just as sluggish in drive. It got going and seemed to come out of it. I drove it about ten miles and it got up to speed just fine. There were 2 stop signs on my route. It took off just fine from each one. I drove it home and parked it in the drive. This morning I go out and it acts as if it has no gears at all. It will do nothing in reverse. In drive, it tries to creep forward at 3500RPM but it barely moves.

I realize this forum is geared more towards the higher end models of this car but I was hoping somebody could help.

Is the roll pin an issue on AT models as well? I pulled the cup holders and everything looks fine there...

no the roll pin has nothing to do with the automatic cars.

about the only thing you can do yourself is check the fluid level, and thats not an easy thing to do because the transmission doesnt have a dipstick. you need to jack the car up on 4 stands so its level, start the car, then crawl under it. near the passenger side axle there is an 11mm (or 7/16") head plug on the side of the trans case, remove that plug (yes remove it while the car is running). if fluid drains out the level is ok, if it doesnt, add fluid till it does. there is a fill cap on the top of the trans, it should be black for an 06, if you look down from the end of the valve cover you should see it, might be sort of under the rad hose.

past that, take it to a reputable transmission shop and have it diagnosed. to me it sounds like its a damaged accumulator piston or a clutch piston seal is bad. the only thing it may be thats a cheap and easy fix is if the oil feed pipes in the pan cracked. i have only seen this happen in g6/grand am/malibu cars with v6 engines. dont know the connection on that one, but ive never seen a 4 cyl car have that issue. either way, those are in the pan, if they are causing the issue it can be only a few hundred bucks to have fixed.
