no gears need help
i have a 2005 cobalt ss s/c and when i started it i noticed it seemed like my shifter was alittle loose. after driving home the next morning when i started it i had no gears at all. its like the vehicle is stuck in neutral. here what i have checked the linkage at the tras is tight, if you move the shifter it can be put in the 1st gear position and moved in a complete circle, and looking at the linkage while some one is shifting i can see it moving. any one have any suggestions or seen this before?
Is the cable connected at the bottom of the shifter? I broke the plastic cup off once down there. Had to drive it with 2 hands to the dealership to get it fixed.

does it feel like it goes into gear? id have somebody move the shifter and look at where the cables connect to the transmission. if the levers are moving on the trans id bet its a broken roll pin on the lever. this was a common problem with the 08+ turbo balts, havent heard of it happening on an lsj however i wouldnt rule it out.

was this really needed? i read his post, wanted to confirm exactly what the problem is, then i offered a solution based on what i thought he was getting at. i deal with tech calls at my shop a couple times a week, people often describe something to me, ill say it back to them and they say no and say something completely different. its hard enough to diagnose a problem over the phone, let alone the internet, im just trying to make sure im offering the correct advice.
Roll pin or cable clamps are messed up. Its easy to diagnose. Pop off the cup holder and look at the cables and clamps. Move the shifter to see if its attached. If they are then look where the cables attach to the trans. Its right under the fuse box in the engine bay. If it moves but doesn't go in gear, roll pin.
