please help me install this shifter!!!

ok i have the shifter out and everything. all i need to do to get the new one in is get this one piece off of the stock stick. its the black bracket piece that screws onto the assembly in the floor to keep the shifter from moving up and down. the big ball at the bottom of the shifter is what is keeping me from sliding it off. is there a trick to this?

thats the biggest problem we all had. I just cut the stock shifter in half and was able to get the ball out. Theres a way but the knob in the shifter is soooo tight, you have to push it out. its almost impossible.

that what i was thinking about doing, but i wanted to make sure before i did it. what about cuting one side of that bracket piece to enable me to open it up, and then put it around the new shifter and apoxy the thing back solid? bad idea?

You can also cut a piece of the black bracket which is keeping you from getting the round part, I but then ull still have to cut the metal to be able to get the ball, so its better to break one thing than to break two.

the shift boot has been modified since the pics though, so that it isnt so bulky.
