Re-virginized... Yeah it's a word now

So my trans is shot and my motor most likely locked... Good news is I have a beater so I'm not without a car but bad news is well obvious... I've got about $7-10k budget and I'm having a gm dealer do all my work so I will have a 100,000 mile warranty on my drivetrain as long as the motor is "stock." I plan on taking my head and supercharger from my old motor to be worked at a machine shop so they are still considered to be "unmodified." So any suggestions?

any half ass tech at GM will know something is up.. if you have that much just get a built motor and a g85 trans.. should hold you over unless you really mess it up which is pretty hard to do with these motors..

zzp has a long block with 59k on it for ~$950. im sure they would be willing to build and ship..

just wondering.. how exactly did you break your trans and "lock" your motor..?

It all depends on if you like the car. I love my 93 z28 6 speed and its only worth maybe $5k tops but i wouldnt sell it for $10k. I know that sounds stupid but that car is family to me now. I will probably wind up putting 20 times what it is worth in my lifetime but i hope to still have it when i die.

Ok my trans was shot when I bought the car. I have only had it since mid-July. I replaced the clutch two months ago and when we did there were metal shards in the fluid. Got everything back together and the trans was making a nasty grinding-knock noise. Fixed that problem then I race my buddies '00 mustang gt and when I shifted into 3rd, it just felt wrong... It was super sloppy and ground in like every gear. Got it home started it up and it was knocking, killed it motor was 2 quarts low, which I've only put 200 miles on it since I got it and I had the oil changed two days after I bought it. Put oil in it, started it up and the noise was still there but it wasn't as loud. I was driving it home an my clutch popped super hard like heard it outside the car threw my leg back WTF kind of popped but the noise stopped. So I figured things were okay. I drive it back to work and home that night go to head to work and it won't turn over. Like doesn't even try. You turn the key it clicks once like loud pop then thats it. My father-in-law is service manager at the local gm stealer and so he looked at it and he says it's the motor locking out to protect itself from killing itself some kind of deal the computer does i.e. My motor is locked.
The thing about having my old motor worked, as long as they are the oem parts I can do whatever and they are considered stock as far as gm is considered, already went throught hat on my trans am. Like I said my father-in-law is the local gm guy so I've already talked to him about what can I do if I buy a motor and my warranty not be effected, to which he said that as long as I modify the stock parts such as pulling parts off my blown motor working them and putting them on the new one, and otherwise don't do any internals, it won't matter. Cold air etc won't effect it.

Selling isn't an option. I love this car and I only have $2k in it currently.

So really I'm just wondering, I have 70k miles and the car was obviously abused, should I buy another motor for anywhere from $1k for used or $3500 for new or should I have my
Old motor worked? The guy I talked to said he could bore it to about a 2.8 work my heads supercharger replace my pushrods and rocker arms and all my gaskets etc... So basically new motor that Runs like crazy but has no warranty and will cost about the same or maybe a little more like $500-$5000 depending on what all I have done
