removing axle seal question

To remove the axle seal do you just pry it open or do you have to remove the 5 bolts around it?

Just pry it out. But be carful you don't nick or chip where the seal is in the trans.

That's what i'm trying but it seems really stuck on there. Is it ok if i remove the bolts? Would i have access to the seal there?

I wouldn't remove that. I would just use a small pry bar and pop it out. And keep working at it. Apply a lil heat to the seal. They are a bitch to get out. And they're not the easiest to put back in either. You have to get it seated perfect, if it starts to go in Crooked you will need a new seal. When I did my trans they where stubborn.

Use a large socket, smaller than the size of the hole in the casting, about the size of the steel part of the seal. Tap on the socket with the hammer. This is how I do it. Works well.

Go to RockAuto Auto Parts pic your car and year and model. And it's under manual trans/ out put shaft seal. It's like 5$ and some change.
