what makes it pretty much impossible? is it placing the motor in longituginally(sp?) as oppose to transverse? Because the wheel base on the Solstice is only 8.4 in. shorter than the Cobalts and the rear track width is 2 in. wider on the Solstice. That could be fixed with a longer driveshaft and a deeper offset on the tires, unless you want to shorten the rear end. And of course any thing is possible with enough money except maybe men giving birth and growing wings to fly. lol.
yea it could be done......i have been experimenting with a awd setup...i think i am gonn attempt to do mine....its gonna be a bitch and take a while to do, but i think i may have all that i need to do it....me and couple good friends think we can do it, but first i gotta finish up on my pre blueprint sheet to get finished.....i will keep u guys informed when i get started...p e a c e
Well first, you're talking about 2 different chassis, so you have to think about the measurements compared to both cars.
Then you have to consider cost of actually getting a full drivetrain from a vehicle that costs MSRP 20+ thousand dollars.
Also, you have to consider what are the actual benefits of doing this per cost.
For the most part, no one around here is either capable financially or skill wise to do something like this. I'd imagine it's an incredible amount of fabrication.

they may be two different chasis. but i have read a post in the j-body.org site when i had a cavalier of a guy dropping in a 3400 v6 in his 3rd gen cavi. and that drivetrain came from a whole different chasis as well as that car costing more than a cavi. but given it was still a front wheel drive setup. and if i remember correctly there was not too much fabbing involved.

Huge difference.
Retarded, for that kind of money you could buy a WAY FASTER CAR. Probally get you in a porsche that would out handle it to boot. I bought my Balt because it was the fastest one in my price range, and I got a GM discount so I had to by GM if I wanted to use it. In a couple of years when I make more money what should I do? Buy another cobalt and drop 50 grand in it or buy the Supercharged SS Camero they are talking about building? Ge, I don' know.... Do what you want, probaly be pretty badass, just saying I would not spend my money on it IMO. I think that the Camero has alot more potential than a homemade RWD cobalt. Once again this is just IMO.
Its easy! Get a wrecked Solstice and take its drive train out, then gut the Cobalt. Cut the floor to put the transmission and driveshaft tunnel in remove the fuel tank and put a fuel cell in the trunk. Then just swap in the Solstice stuff and TA DA! A RWD Cobalt!
True it is TONS of work but there you go!

Also, if you run into any problems, it's all on you...no warranty and no one will probably fix any problems you run into along the way unless you found a specialist in the first place.
How about buying a by or soltice and getting a CF top made like the S2000 has available? The swapping to RWD would be a nightmare and definately not worth the money. I could see swapping the 2.0L Turbo engine into a Cobalt though as being feasible.
Why don't you through in another set of tires in the middle, between the others... and make it 6 wheel drive?
Just playing around. It's like they've all been saying... for the money and time it gonna take... it won't be worth it. When you finish making a RWD or AWD Cobalt... You probably could go out and buy an Evo X. Not saying you like them... but that is the point... it would be a waste of time & Money and you'll be a hell of a lot slower.

The cost would be significantly cheaper but be prepared for a good sized labour bill to do the modifying for the rwd components.
