So rev matching a downshifting, good?

so I've been rev matching all the time now (clutch in, neutral, blip, blutch in then gear) <- to my knowledge thats rev matching..

well anyways I can do it now with any gear so that you dont even feel it its so smooth, I'm having a lot of fun downshifting to lights and such, but I heard it wears your trans really fast Downshifting all the time..

is this false? am I good as long as I rev match when I downshift?

yes, that's how you're supposed to drive. Rev matching saves wear on your clutch and tranny, and you're supposed to rev match down just incase you need to move quickly for whatever reason.

heard that was really bad on the synchros. i honestly dont downshift slowing down at a light unless im making a turn, then its nice to already be in 2nd as im turning

I almost never downshift. I usually just roll to a stop in neutral or with the clutch pedal in.

how is it bad for the syn? your matching the speed so that it engages when the eng and tranny match.....

well I dunno, downshifting is fun, plus I love how smooth I got it down now

but yeah I just hate that grey area when you're in neutral, where, you're too slow for 2 and too fast for 1...

upon further reading it appears that I'm doing something called "double clutching" wtf is that? is that bad for the car? thats what I thought I was supposed to do?

Rev matching sucks with the stock pedal box. Need PRS to release his new gas pedal for proper heel and toeing.

I got some bolt on pedal covers (I drilled them in) and I can heel toe with them.. sorta, its more like left side of foot brake/right side gas lol

Downshifting is part of driving stick. Double clutching done right is nicer to your synchros than single clutching. Back in the days before synchros you HAD TO double clutch, synchros were introduced to emliminate the need for it. I've double clutched ever since I first got it perfect

That's exactly what I do with the stock pedals, it kinda works, I'm getting better with practice.

I rev match but it's kinda like a three legged tap dance.

I feel like, for me at least, the pedals are perfect for heel toe. My 02 mustang had the throttle pedal like 3 inches below the brake, that **** wasnt happening

ah I <3 my stick shift, its my first standard car, only been driving stick for a year, and I never want an auto again lol.

but yeah these pedal covers are wide and kinda taller? I dunno, I'm able to use half my right foot for brake/gas.

but yeah, I have these underarmour running shoes and there soooo much fun to drive with, and I LOVE downshifting and stuff, it just makes driving a blast. All I really wanted to know was if I "double clutch" and rev match perfect, am I really going to damage anything? cuz I've kinda fallen in love with "REALLY DRIVING" my car

rev matching is done to prevent damage. If done perfectly it provides a jolt free shift and it puts you in the optimum gear for accelerating out of a corner. win win win

on my revmatches i push in the clutch drop a gear and hit the gas at the same time and release the clutch... no point of hitting the clutch twice

If saving milliseconds on the track is priority than yes single clutch is faster. On the street double clutch is nicer to my daily drivers synchros

i know its not a cobalt but my grandfathers old '89 international big rig with over 5 million miles on it was still on the stock clutch. the old man never used his clutch other then to stop and go, every other time it was rev matching and double clutching.

i rev match downshift mine and she's still going strong at 108,000km's

Heal toe shifting is actually pretty easy in the cobalt. It is more like left/right side of foot for each petal. But i do it almost always even daily driving..

As far as shifting with no clutch, that's just stupid.. sure it can be done but its not meant to be done on these cars at all! You will tear up your syncros and grind gears.. I have a CDL and used to drive a big truck.. those are made to shift with no clutch or double clutch. It's damn near impossible to shift in that regularly like a car..

people dont match the speed perfectly so the synchros have to do the rest of the work. doesnt sound like much but when people do it everytime they stop for 100k miles it takes a toll

I always just clutch in, rev match, then clutch out. It seems like double clutching would take too long.
