Stupid clutch question..

This question is really stupid, however, I've searched and found no answer.

Is dumping the clutch, or side-stepping the clutch, bad in the Cobalts? I know some cars have no problems with the tranny holding up to dumps, but I've never read anything about the Cobalt. I raced my buddy's Celica last night and it was my first time dumping it from like 3,500rpms, and I'm like - Eh, maybe I should have slipped it instead?

Thoughts on the topic?

umm, i'd have to say dumping the clutch is a BAD idea. rev to your desired engine speed and ease out smoothly on the clutch. be nice to it and it will be nice to you

If you ease out of the clutch, not only is it nicer on your car, but you tend to get better traction.

I would advise, unless you want to do a burnout, to slip the clutch out... not too slow though.

Yeah, all it did was spin 1st. It was kinda pointless. Hopefully I didn't do too much damage. That's the first time I've ever side-stepped it like that though.

i've found that feathering the clutch out works the best and is the least harmless if done right...

the only way you'll get a decent launch on our cars is feathering the clutch.

It's where you let it out easy as opposed to dumping it.

but not too much to where you'll ride it out bad and mess your clutch up.. it takes some practice to get use to it, but man, when you do.. perfect smooth launches all the time. even better when you get a good hole shot
