Time to upgrade to bigger axels. Broke on stock tires 1.9 60fts

Well, I decided to not run the Hoosier QTP tires because of fear of breaking and axel. So the past 2 months I ran the stock tires. Went to Lapeer Dragway today figure that track never hooks and low and behold I was pulling 2.0 and 1.9 60ft's on stock p-zero tires with the help of hptuners to reduce 1st gear boost. 3rd pass of the day and BAMMMMM! Broke the driverside axel by hooking too hard. I upgraded to the Intense Poly engine mounts while still running the Engals engine dampner and this car had ZERO WHEEL HOP........ Killed the axel by dead hooking. Car jumped off the line on the prior two passes and this pass just snapped the axel.

Here are a few pictures of the damage....

Looks like I'm ordering those Driveshaft shop 400hp axels tommarow.

EDIT: Here are a few pictures of the upgraded Axels I purchased from INTENSE.... These are the driveshaft shop Stage 2 axels that hold 400hp.

may be a stupid question. but if u order 400 hp axles and u get over 400 hp with pistons, heads and cams. wont they just break also. why dont u put like 600 hp axles or are they not made yet

Haha, yeah way to look at the bright side. So it looks like they are breaking right at the CV joint right? Good luck Daren! Are you going to T&T at Milan on the 21st? If not, I'd like to stop over and take a look at your setup before I move for good to Kansas!

The CV joint was fine, it was actually the metal shaft that broke. The axle tapers down near the cv joint and that's right where it snaped.

Thanks for the clarification. I am really unfimilar with the way front wheel drive is assembled. Hell, I am really unfimilar with the way any driveline is assembled.

Do you have an after market clutch? I think this is just the hierarchy of breaking things on these cars. First, break clutch. Second, break axles. I am still on stock clutch, stock axles, and launching my DRs at 3200-3500RPM.

yup!...once you get a clutch that grabs under power(unlike mine ) all that stress is sent to the tires VIA axels.

POWER broke the axel.... twisted right where they taper down with the help of hooking hard. Stock tires too.... that's crazy.

Posted new pictures of better view where it broke.

I think we should start a new club.... Who has the power to twist and break axels and run in the 12's.....

Give it time.... your almost there.... you should be making the power to twist them. Knock on wood it lasts for a few, then your **** out of luck. When you hit the power level and hook hard...something has to give.
Spec 3+ held up great..... axels... hummmm what's next?

Yeah, I figure the first thing to break will be my clutch. I have one fo those sitting on my bedroom floor. When I replace the clutch I won't drag race again until I get axles. That way I can have my stockers as spares. Man I am going to jinx myself about this clutch.

Sorry to hear about your break. Sounds like we need to organize a group purchase on upgraded axles!

Which clutch do you have Pat?

Ya, right now you have some drivetrain loss....clutch is slipping a little, tires aren't gripping fully....., but once you start putting the power to the ground and remove those variables... **** breaks....
