tranny problems

my car doesnt want to go into third or second when downshifting. Is a syncro bad or something else wrong. also it makes like a grinding sound when i push the clutch in and put it in first but it stops if i have it in neutral and the clutch is not pressed in

Issue sounds like it could be either the slave cylinder going bad or it could be an issue with transmission itself.

Common issue. You might as well put a new clutch in while they have the transmission out.
