Tranny scared the sh** out of me.
Tranny scared the sh** out of me.
Went to the track last night and was working on my launches and reaction time, and decided to step it up and run a few cars, my ss has always been a lil tough to shift at times. but last night i did my 5th run i think and i launched perfect well almost .545 reaction time but car would go into second and then wouldn't go into 3rd. at the end of the run on the return drive back my car wouldn't go into any gear i stopped completely turned car off then bac on car went into gear i rolled to the sidelines to take a look didnt see any fluids so i put car in gear and it made a crazy whining noise i tried reverse it whined and stalled it did this twice. i let the car sit looking under the hood and under the car after bout 20mins i started her up and the whine noise was gone. the mods to my tranny are mounts, clutchmasters stage 3 clutch with original throwout bearing and royal purple fluids. (got the car like that) some friends say its the fluid a shop told me maybe its the throwout bearing since it wasn't changed. I'm not sure.
during city city its hard to hit 3rd at times very blocky shifts, reverse is like a cage match.

I'd look at your cables first (so starting with the easy stuff)...
IIRC there is no upgrade for our TOB... so *shrug*...
I've heard only good things about royal purple from people who are biased to begin with... frankly I would be hard pressed to deviate from the fluid GM recommends...
hopefully my bump will get you a better response!

Flush the Clutch Fluid and make sure you've got fresh stuff in the line. Make sure the trans fluid is topped off properly. The RP stuff isn't bad, but the GM stuff is known to work well. Check the cables, etc. If the TOB is/was going bad, the engagement point would change during your drive, usually getting lower to the floor.
will flush the fluids and check on the clutch cables. Im pretty much set on putting the Gm stuff in there the engagement is the same hasnt changed which is pretty close to the floor. the TOB doesnt make any noise when i push the clutch in.
The TOB won't make any noise. When mine died, it was actually fine when I was DDing... but if I did a WOT run, with every gear change the engagement point would get closer and closer to the floor. Usually it wouldn't do the 3-4 shift. I'd stab the pedal to the floor, and it just would not go in.
Your engagement closer to the floor might just be the clutch itself though, but I'd definitely bleed it REALLY well, just to make sure. Use some GOOD fluid. I like the ATE Super Blue and Type 200... they're the same fluid... just the Super Blue is Blue and type 200 is amber... that way you know for sure that the old stuff is out, and the new stuff is in. I guess I should add that the SBlue is not DOT approved because of the blue color... but you shouldn't have any problem with that from LEO's.

ok i can do that tomorrow as well gotta hit autozone anyway, i been hearing i have to take the driver side tire of to get bac to the tranny is this true? also i noticed no trans dipstick.
Autozone doesn't carry ATE fluids,
just the generic crap. You don't have to take off the driver's side tire, but it will probably make things easier to change the trans fluid. No trans dipstick. There are two bolts, a drain and a fill. When the fluid starts pouring out the fill hole, its full. Car MUST be level when filling.
Are you sure you know what you're doing?
