Tranny Temp Gauge.. Useful?

Hey guys,

I'm boosting the efficiency of my tranny.. I already added the Shift Plus, and I'm adding synthetic tranny fluid and a secondary cooler soon. A tune will be next year, thus adding more options as well. So my question is this.. I've seen tranny temp gauges before, being in stock vehicles (comes stock in GM HD trucks/suv's, and my grandpas SSR has one too), or for sale individually in Summit. Since my car is auto, and sometimes worked hard, I figured it'd be a good thing so slide into my s/c pillar pod. Would this yield any benefit to me opposed to just looking pretty? I figure it'd be safer to know what my tranny is doing when I'm at the track and stuff, to prevent issues from happening ahead of time.. This true? Also, how would you go about installing one? I've never installed a gauge before, but if you have to do something technical, I'll just have my shop do it when they do my cooler and stuff..

Thanks!

I have one on my car and i watch it carefully. Right now on the power im running it stays around 180 degrees. I was told it was operating under safe conditions as long as it was under 200 degrees. on 8 psi it would stay around 165-170 degrees.

I have one in my car... but I put it in (along with a trans cooler) for the turbo project. Unless you're going forced induction, it's pointless. The only purpose it serves is letting you know when you're overheating the trans. You shouldn't ever do that without forced induction.

Very true, however I'd rather have a gauge that actually works in my pillar pod. haha. I just stuck an AF ratio in there for now so it wasn't blank.. What is a good gauge for me to get then if this won't help much? There IS a very slight chance of an s/c swap, but not at this time. Would the regular narrowband AF ratio I have in there now benefit me any? Especially after a tune it maaaaaaay..??

Spend the cash and get a wideband AFR sensor/gauge setup. It'll benefit you when tuning no matter what you do to the car.
