Sounds like maybe someone didn't finish the job the first time. I've only had one problem with mine and that was the linkage cable was tensioned too tightly (others had the same problem and the cable will eventually snap). Service manager adjusted it for me and now it's perfect. I even got complements from some Honda guys about the smoothness in the shifter (which says a LOT for it, since Hondas tend to have very smooth shifters).

Give GM a call because your dealer didn't do the job right.

How can you tell id your linkage is too tight? Is it normal for you to have to apply more force to get it to go in first gear (at a dead stop) then any of the other gears?

The dealer tech fucked it up who worked on it. When the EVO's were new one guy in my shop had to rebuild a few and screwed up the first couple cause they were towed back in in a week.

Dam that sucks. I hate having a hard time getting in first (from a stop). Ive never had a standard car before. Sure isint good to force it in that im sure.

Ditto there's very rare occasions it feels like hitting a wall...every time it happens I cuss up a damn storm but I'm not all about taking my car in for tranny work if that's the only problem I'm having (and it happens so irratically they'd have a hard time reproducing it).

Hopefully they take care of your tranny problems, what a huge pain in the ass to say the least.

Yes, it should be hard to get into first gear, even at a dead stop. There is a lockout mechanism on 1st, designed to prevent accidental downshift while moving. If you listen, you can hear it (should be a thud sound). Ironically it's supposed to lock out over 20, but just messing around one day with the clutch in, i got it to go into first (NEVER letting off the clutch) at 40.

At any rate, first should be hard to get into, but when you're stopped go to 2nd and then 1st. EVERYONE I know shifts a manual like that and it'll go in smooth as can be. Your linkage is too tight if you CONSISTANTLY have problems with the other gears during normal (NOT hard) shifting. My problems were with 2nd and sometimes 4th. I'd go to shift and there would be a brick wall there or I'd get it in and it would pop back out. Took it to the service manager, talked to him, he went out in the parking lot and got in there and loosened the cable just a little bit and *poof* no more problems. Occasional problems aren't anything to worry about, if it's doing it all the time then there's a problem.

How does that pulley feel? I wanted to wait until spring to install mine (3.15) but it's getting hard.
