Trans Question

So just wondering, most econo/sport compact cars that are out right now i.e. MS3, Civic SI, SpecV, GTi all have 6 Speed Manuals, and didn't know why Chevy decided to go with the 5 speed? Any thoughts hypothesis as to why, or is there some basic answer that I'm just not getting. Is it me, or am I the only one who would rather have that extra gear up top

because they are dumb. i think first and second gear should stay the same and divide the last 3 into 4.

I wouldn't want the extra gear. More then likely they would leave the top gear ratio the same and you would just shift more often to get there. Similar to the 6 speed kit that is available for our transmissions. 6 speeds just isn't needed when you have enough torque to pull the taller gears.
