Hey everyone recently found out that the lsj trannys are better then the LNF so a gud friend of mines from bac at fort bliss is willing to swap trannys with me he has more miles on his but its still in gud condition ( we always drive together/ no homo) i figured it would be a gud chance to get a better tranny and drop in my Spec clutch n flywheel. I am also giving him my entire stock turbo setup everything included with IC piping for free. since i have ZZP IC piping, what do you guys think?

So you gave him 700+ dollars in parts for free for swapping your guy's trannies? Is that what i got outta this?
ps, i would highly suggest you have that LSJ tranny rebuilt since it is high miles. It is "stronger" that the LNF tranny but not by much. And when i say "stronger"...i mean it is the same metals and still has the same breaking strength...but due to the slightly shorter gears it is LESS LIKELY to break

im not goin to use my stock turbo or any of those parts after i swap out im not money hungry or anything and he is by far a very gud friend he has a lsj he wants to turbocharge but just had a son so his build will be slow, least i can do is help by giving him parts i kno i wont use. his goal is only 350-400 so i asked bout the tranny, he said it would be fine so i made the thread. but realized after posting it my Spec clutch n fly wont fit.

yes to gud to be true but very much fine on my part since i brought Shultz ZZP piping with maf relocate so dont need lower charge pipe brought his upper so dont need mine, buyin treadstone!! downpipe n intake becuz of the combined deal so dont need my intake, of course i could sell it on here but I have a friend in need so i have no problem helping out.. plus remember my car was brought with all hahn fbo's so its not really a lost for me. LMAO dont everyone wish they had a friend like me lol......serious though dont you wish?
Flywheel and clutch don't bolt to the tranny so they should be fine. Besides, the LNF and LSJ use the same bolt pattern on both, from what I understand the LNF just has a heavier flywheel and stronger clutch
ok but since im using aftermarket clutch and flywheel i should be gud. like previously stated i will get it rebuilt.

LSJ/LNF flywheels and clutches, TOB, trans casing, gears, are the same fitment, bolt pattern forward and backwards compatible, other than material in the clutch face, the final drive ratio, the TOB is different spec but fits the same and is an upgrade, the shift lever is shorter on the trans side, and the shift cable bracket on the trans is solid mount.
the rest is popcorn. someone said the LSJ would have higher miles, they are right. short gears dont make the trans stronger, they do shift the torque /speed/gear relationship some.

I'm doing this as well .... The lsj tranny swap I mean....so what won't work.....shifter cables? Shift linkage? Tob?clutch?...I have stock flywheel and clutchmaster stage 4 ....I just blew my f35 can use some good advice....be thorough please and elaborate thanks
Try to find a trans with low miles on it. There is no way to really tell if they have been abused but you can move the input shaft around and see if theres any play. Check the fluid for color if theres any left in the trans and remove the drain and fill plugs and see if there is any metal on them.
My post # 18 was thorough. applies to all cobalts. 2004 saturn ion redlines; the LSJ trans wont work in a cobalt as the bellhousing is not machined for a vss off the cw gear. 2004 Redlines are however backwards compatible for trans.
