Transmission not holding when the car is not running, is this normal?

I have been drive standard shift vehicles since I was 16, v8's granted, and never have used the e brake. Ok so today, I went into a gas station I go to all the time, to grab a can of dip. It is a very minor slant. I have seen the car roll back maybe a foot. Today we were in there longer then normal, some guy comes in all frantic, whos black car is out front, I am about to leave. He asked me, and I say yes, he says its rolled back 4 feet to which it had. I didn't have the e brake up, because all of my other cars, including my 1.8T jetta never did it. I will use it on a big hill. Is this normal? It was in 1st gear. Non LSD trans if that helps. Is the trans getting weak?

wouldn't that be an engine compression problem? or a slipping clutch.

I wouldn't think so if it was not running, and was just sitting in gear. Thats a trans issue.

And because the facebook responses say compression. This was the results when I ran them 3 weeks ago. I drive it normal, no more the 3k shifts. Its a daily. Here are the compression numbers. The clutch holds great. Will someone please explain this?

Cylinder 1=202
Cylinder 2=199
Cylinder 3=200
Cylinder 4=196

That's almost always poor compression but those numbers look decent.

What hilds the car when you have it in gear is the engine compression. And your clutch. Not the transmission. The only way you can blame your trans is if you leave it in 1st and come out with it in neutral.
Run a compression leakdown test. I would doubt its a clutch issue unless you're parked on a very steep hill.
