TWM short shifter, cable clamp and bushing install questions
TWM short shifter, cable clamp and bushing install questions
Ok so I wasn't exactly sure where to post this thread and I do have most of this shifter installed. I followed the directions of all the sheets and followed the pdf of the cable clamp install. I am sure these little quirks are from me being a first time/green horn at all this modifying, I am used to my 72 chevelle where modifying something doesn't require removal of much if anything haha.
I have a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt SS/Sc. I installed the TWM short shifter base bushings cable clamp and have the optional shift lever.
I noticed the stock shift knob doesn't come off as easily as they make it seem in the TWM directions, so after trying numerous ways of pulling the knob off even with a pulling coupler and some persuasion it did not budge. So I cut the damn thing off with a metabo because I was quite frankly sick of it.
Everything else went fine until I hit the base bushings 3 of the 4 came out easy as hell, the top right bushing/steel insert however would not budge and I used quite a bit of force, prying and lubricating(haha) and the damn insert would not budge did anyone else have that issue?
So I installed 3 of the 4 base bushings and was set for re-installation of the new shifter.
After I seated the pivot cup and the side bushing into the L shaped arm bracket I noticed that the shaft that rests between the bottom assembly half and the top cover piece would not sit back into place. I had to yet again force it and make it stay to get that top cover back on.
I now notice going into reverse the shifter seems to feel as if it is moving, also the the shifter doesn't spring back to neutral when taken out of gear. I know something is wrong here but the damn thing works I'd just like to figure out the issues so I can be fully satisfied with spending the time/money of the install and also for the shifter to operate as the manufacturer intended.
Thank you for any and all help. All off topic comments made to poke fun at me are welcome so I can laugh it up lol but not in excess I would like some assistance.

i have the same setup in my 06 S/C and i had no problems at all installing anything.
where i had problems was when i droped a base bushing and had to rip my car apart to retrieve it...
installing the shifter was cake,
installing the base bushings was a joke.
now the cable clamp...
my concern was making sure the cable clamp was on correctly with correct spacing.
but i didnt run into any issues. wish i could help ya out but my bushings were easy as cake to replace. used a flat head maybe. cannot remember
