Upgraded steering knuckles...ect...

At what point does the general SS/SC community think an upgrade in this area is necessary ? So Far I have gotten fatter/wider tires, stage 2 upgrade from GMPP,Iridium plugs,Grounding kit,Injen CAI with wet shield(AKA little more resistance in the air flow dept)B&M shifter, free flowing exhaust. I figure , an honest 225-235 at the wheels- but I need no proof, just satisfaction in my ride. The reason I ask this is because the Chevrolet dealer put it right on my reciept when I had the stage 2 put on that I turned down this steering knuckle and some lower arm upgrade---Like I was making a mistake . Anyone have problem with or without this set up ? I play quite a bit - but do not , by any means beat on my car. I have 21K and never has anything but the sunroof button thing given me any problem. Thanks for any input.

I talked with CED about this. The best we could come up with is that these are strictly a GM Racing part, not a GMPP part (there is a difference). None of us are 100% sure, but they may be the same steering knuckles off of the Time Attack Cobalt. This means they are ready to accept the Grand Am hubs that they used. I don't think they are needed for a daily driver. Now as far as I know there are no lower arm upgrades available. The SS/SC already has the aluminum control arms, that itself is the upgrade for the other model lines (the SS 2.4l has them too).

I think you just got a case of the dealer suffering from "head-up-ass" syndrome. Unfortunately, it is a common sickness and is very prevalent in service writers and few technicians. The only known cure is a heavy dose of "hands-on experience" and can be found in any real performance shop (sold in small quantities).

I'd vote the same, if you were doing serious auto-x. You cant run stock class caus of your mods so that puts you in a street class, whitch you have to run a 140 and up treadwear (harder less sticky) tire.

Unless you were going into a full mod class with all those upgrades you have now, to be able to run a Hoosier Slick. ( 40 treadwear ) To really be compeditive youd be doing things like KW Virant 2 Coilovers and all kinds of suspension work.

Regular roads no matter how good the pavement on street tires shouldn't have enough grip to exert those kinds of forces.
