weak clutch

Well I bought a 06 ss/sc cobalt with 18000 milesa on it after wrecking my heavily modded 05 ss/sc cobalt. I put the zzp stage 3 heat exchanger 60# injectors and zzp tune on it and within 900 miles my clutch will not even hold to 10psi boost passing a person. Anything over 60-70 % throttle it just slips the clutch. So I know how to drive a stick I have done it for a extremely long time and am starting to consider that maybe this stock clutch just sucks. I tried the shift aroiund 3000 thing for 2 days and after that it slipped worse than before. So I am now looking for a different clutch. I already have a fidanza aluminum flywheel sitting in my garage from my last cobalt but am thinking about the spec stage 4 clutch. Has anyone used this clutch? oif so how does it feel my last car was violent extremely violent and I did not mind that. Also will the spec stage 4 mate with the fidanza flywheel? I would go exedy but i really dont wanna buy another flywheel if i do not need to. just give me some inputs.

it slips while in gear? yea, sounds like a shot clutch. Who knows what happened with the car before you bought it. Not sure about your other questions, others can answer that bette than myself.

That would suck if you need a new one. Try and see if the stealership you bought it from will fix or replace it.

if your going to buy a new clutch, theres no need to get a spec stage 4... i have a spec 3+ and it grabs instantly and its good for city driving because you can ride the clutch since its a full face disc. and power wise, its definately good. i should be pushin 350whp and i have never had this clutch slip EVER.

I thought you were never supposed to ride the clutch

you drop the engine and transmission with the supercharger off and seperate the two pulling the engine away from the cradle. an experienced tech it calls for like 8 hrs.

some will. they charge you a higher labor rate if you bring your own parts but then again some say absolutely not.

Thought I would let everyone know I ended up getting a new clutch made. The company is making a 6 puck copper ceramic clutch that is the same they have used in many of my friends high power v8 vehicles. The custom clutch with new pressure plate is only running me $450. I am using my fidanza flywheel though and think that includes resurfacing and balancing the flywheel also. DO NOT BUY CENTERFORCE DUAL FRICTION!!! I got mine to my house and it is only organic. Both clutch facings are exactly the same only one is notched to have a puck style clamping. The pressure plate looks completely unmodified and does not have the centrifugal weights on the end of the clutch fingers. If you want to pay big money for a stock clutch there ya go. I brought it to that clutch shop and they shuttered when they saw the box and explained how it is basically a stock clutch. I never understood the idea behind the dual friction anyways. Your clutch disk is only as strong as the weakest link so if it is organic on one side and even feramic on the other it is still only having the holding power of a organic since thats what one clutch facing still is.

wow. 136,000 miles and i still got my factory clutch. only time it ever slipped on me was when i raced my friend in is Porsche.... slipped when i went to shift 2nd gear at 6000rpm

clutch pedal is stiff and has been for ever. dont know if its supposed to be that way. as long as i shift over 3000rpm...it seems to be working lovely.

of course, i dont ride it hard and you never see me over 5000rpm...
