why doesnt my car pull
why doesnt my car pull
I have a 07 cobalt ss/sc with a 9000kms and a GMP stage 2 with a injen CAI, my question is when i shift from first to second at like 7000rpm in first, my rpm drops to like 4000rpm when i hit second. and sometimes when i really punch it in first and shift to second its almost like my clutch isnt catching, by that i mean my rpm will slowly go down like 2000-3000rpm with out the car pulling very hard. other times though my car will lay a patch when shifting into second.which is what i want every time.so do i need a heavier clutch or is it a bigger problem than that?
sounds like your tires are spinning at the end of 1st.. so you aren't really going that fast.. and when you shift into 2nd the rpm and speedo will fly back down....
whereas other times if you are at the end of 1st and you HAVE traction, and you shift into 2nd.. all is good and you will pull away hard

let me rephrase this, when i hit seconde from full accelertion in first my car will stay reving(it drops like 2000rpm) but it doesnt seem to be putting any power to the ground and the tires are not spinning, and i cant smell clutch
so get like a stage 2+ clutch and lighter flywheel and that will fix?
the clutch doesnt slip in any other way or time except for when i go from 1st to 2nd under hard acceleration. maybe thats because 1st to 2nd has to most power or what? and yes i am boosting. and to hunterkiller when it drops to 4500 rpm im not complaining about that, its when i shift and the motor slowly decelerates from 7000 to about 5500 and im not going any faster the motor is making noise but it doesnt feel like im getting nealy the power i should have for 6000rpm.

You are mainly having clutch slip issues. Try driving the car without sliding the clutch any more than necessary, and see if it holds. If it does, but it goes back to being sloppy when you allow it to slip during regular use, then you have a stock clutch that isn't 100% anymore. Change it out, or learn to drive it in a manner that lets it work. These cars are funny like that.
i figured that i had to much power for the stock clutch and i would keep on seeing the same problem over and over again if i get a warrenty fix. what stage of clutch from cobalt-addiction.com would you recomend, or shoud i just replace it with another stock clutch and hope that it wont happen again?

got any tips for me on how to get the clutch to not slip but lay rubber when i shift in to 2nd. another thing is that my friend told me that i might be dumping the clutch to hard when shifting into second.
you are probably spinning some on the top of 1st, these cars HATE to be shifted when they are spinning. easy fix, shift earlier, or pull some boost out of first
You have to not slip the clutch when driving. Make sure all your shifts are timed right, to the point where if you jump off the clutch, the car won't buck becasue the revs are already matched. Don't downshift if you can't rev-match, or can't do it well. Try to not rev the car when leaving a light or stop sign, just enough gas to get going, 1500 rpms tops, and roll out. If you do this for a bit, you should break the glaze on the clutch a little and it will hook, if you do it for a while the clutch will get quite strong again. Still, if you overheat it with hard launches, it will get sloppy again, but drive it right and you can really push the car and it will hold.
