why so much slop in the shifter? bc of cable?

when in gear.. i can move it side to side a little bit.... more than i *think* it should with a short throw (hurst).. i have also felt the stock.. and the BM... they all feel this way

is it because we have a cable shifter and not a rod shifter?

felt a short throw on a cobra... srt-4.. and SHO taurus... all were SUPER precise and NO movement

was bored and thought i would ask
