New Clutch

Ok need some help on a new clutch. As every1 and there mother we all have the glazing problems and the clutch needs replaced anyway so who some some feedback.. I know the exedy hyper stg3 is prob the best, but it's also like 1300+.. was looking for something a lil more reasonable. I also heard SPEC is crap but saw a few others like clutchmasters.. thanks in advance for the help...

spec clutches arent my favorite, but givne the choices, the hyper single being #1 spec would be #2. i do like bulley clutches, they work great but are harder to get (only vender ive seen have them is TAG racecraft).

are you planning a lightweight flywheel when you do the clutch??? if so, just get the hyper single, some sights have it for $1100, by the time you get a flywheel and clutch its that much.

Don't go Bully unless you're willing to do some type of God's work in trying to bleed it.

I'm currently ripping out my Bully and getting a Spec Stage 3. I bled this Bully Clutch for hours without much improvement, then took it to a trans shop who bled it multiple ways for 3 hours and couldn't get it any better. Very, very shitty design.

im confused as to how the clutch itself has anything to do with bleeding it. when you bleed it you are just removing the air from the hydralic system. now if the clutch wasnt releasing, it could have been because of other issues. changing the clutch cause you cant get it bled makes no sense, its like changing brake pads cause you cant get the brakes bled.

ive had bulley clutches before (not in a cobalt) and they have worked fantastic. the stage 2 in my v6 cavalier took everything i could throw at it, including 5500rpm clutch drops on drag radials on a very stickey track. i put over 50k km on it without a hickup. friends of mine have had simular experiances.

its not that it needs to be bleed so much as the slave is leaking

Yeah, from what I hear the slave they send you doesn't allow you to bleed it through just pushing in the clutch, you have to manually push in the slave by hand to bleed it, which is completely retarded. No other clutch (to my understanding) has to be bled like this, and you can't use the stock slave, which makes it suck even worse.

yeah, idk man mine is fine. I can power shift and everything if you call bully they will supposedly refund you with a new 4 puck clutch instead of the 6 puck. Mel told me the 6 puck was to heavy to turn and was causing shifting issues in high roms above 6k

exedy oem replacment is just that. exedy makes the stock clutches for gm, thats what was originally in your car. no difference if you buy it from exedy or gm, same clutch.

good to hear people rae having good luck with the bully for these cars, i think i know what will end up in my car

I have the Spec 2+ and I think its great. I hot lapped it about 8 times once and it slipped like hell the last pass. I let it set for a while and boom grabbed like a bastard again. That happened 2 months ago or so and its been fine ever since.Hell its been going strong for over 25K miles and I have made 81 passes (no lie) down the track with it. Damn fine clutch if you ask me.

Exedy Hypersingle FTMFW! You can get the kit from UltraRev or TTR for around $1100.

If you want to have a similar kit for a little less, Centerforce just released a similar kit and Crate Engine Depot has them for $798.08. Here's the linkage:

Just make sure you get a new slave cylinder no matter what anyone says! It will fail if you reuse it, guaranteed!

Just replaced my clutch ( like 2 hours ago ) with a spec stage 2. It is a lot nicer feel than the stock one. I have the old clutch that only has 31k on it. It is glazed and hotspotted like a mother! Also the stock clutch is made my a company called LUK. They are a crap clutch in my opinion.

I just went with the spec stage 2 because it was a good price ( Thank you www.cobalt-addiction.com ) and the tech at spec said it was good for 340 ft. pound. I haven't seen to many people on here that are running it, most have the stage 2+. I have to wait like 700 miles before it is broken in, but after that I will post my thoughts on it.
