Do you have an aftermarket heat exchanger ??
If not, your car is prob pulling timing (like others have said) due to your IAT2's.
Cooling mods are key. The more the better.

So you are saying if you ran a small pulley on the stock cooling system your car would be fine, and wouldnt pull timing? I find that very hard to believe.
I'm not trying to argue with you, but I would like to get some explanation on your logic as to why cooling mods arent what they are cracked up to be.
I could see if you had a full exhaust and ported head you would be ok, but most Cobalt owners do not have that.
I myself saw the best improvements once I installed my OTTP 4th gen heat exchanger. Hell, back when I was only straight GMS3 my car would pull timing up top at the end of 3rd due to my wonderfully high IAT2's. Once the heat exchanger was installed I saw a vast improvement. I will always be a believer in cooling mods, because, well, I have done plenty of tests overs the years with my car on what works and does not work.

Low 12s trapping 115-117. Could of cracked off an 11 possibly if all tracks didn't close early.
Area47 also ran stock cooling system with a shitty pacesetter header.
Not sure how many times we need to tell people these so called "cooling mods" are mostly a waste. Especially these shitty aftermarket heat exchangers that everyone buys.

Stock cooling system, stock exhaust (actually smaller since GMPP catback is 2.25"), stock head. Small pulley TVS. Running 27*+ of timing.

Not to mention Area ran E85 which has cooling benefits of its own. So yes someone like you or Area could get away with little to no cooling mods.
