My daily driver E85 M62 dyno results

Got my 2007 Redline on my dyno last night out of boredom. This is the car I daily drive when not driving my turbo Redline or my Tundra. So I take this one to the lake and when I leave town. I have the stock catback on it and a catted 2.5" downpipe to keep it quiet and because the price was right haha.

I can tell the catted 2.5" downpipe is holding me back up top, especially since when I unbolted the stock catback it only gained 1whp and 1wtq, and a few more hp with some more tuning. My header has a 3" collector and then slams into a 2.5" flange on the downpipe too, so that probably doesn't help, but mixed with the stock catback its a nice quiet daily driver! I need to get my SMS throttle body back and test that out and take the downpipe off and break that 300 mark when I get bored again! I think it should be possible to gain the extra 6whp with those items, and maybe some even cooler air if I want some "glory" numbers

The car has a stock unported M62 on it along with my Euthanasia ported head and ZZP S2 cams. The boost hits around 16 psi and falls to 14.5 psi by redline. Same drop I saw in boost on the TVS with this head/cams combo, just higher boost back then.

Full mod list is 2.7/80's/I/H/Catted DP/Ported Head/Cams/ZZP Valve Springs/E85

Didn't think to get a pic of it on the dyno, but here is the car. Been swapped for 2 years with my 05's motor and still going strong!

This one isn't near as clean as it might seem. Its not bad, but its not in perfect shape by any means. Perfect for what I use it for though.

Exhaust won't get upgraded haha. I don't care too much what it makes. I'd like to make a 300whp pull just for fun sometime though. We will see, but my luck I'll unbolt the downpipe and put the TB on and make like 299 haha.

I did dyno the Tundra this summer! 301whp haha.

Your truck can't make more power then your winter beater. You need to get over the 301 mark haha

When I dyno'd I set my goals low at 280-285whp...

When it made 299.45whp on the first pull I was pumped. Once the initial excitement wore off, it drove me nuts that I was 0.5hp away from saying 300whp, lol.

I think it will too! And I have a 3" downpipe sitting outside on my blown up 04 I could throw on there if I get some spare time too, so maybe I'll swap em when I rebuild the 04.

Its cool though, when I first dyno'd it back in spring it made 292whp with the stock catback on, so its pretty consistent!

That will drive a person crazy haha! So far with this car I've ran a 13.0 and made 294whp, so its just a tease and so close both ways

Thanks man. It is a fun daily driver, and I can still race people and have fun with it. Most stock head/stock cams LSJ's on E85 have made between 275-285whp on my dyno depending on the bolt ons they have.

Yup, consistency is great to have!! My car was within 1hp from last years dyno. Not bad!!

I'm slightly above that range, probably because I'm running a ported blower and catless downpipe. Which also makes me wonder why your catted? lol Best decision I made was to drop that damn thing... seems to give lsjs a lot of problems.

That's definitely a sign of a healthy running car!

Your car definitely seems healthy too, right where it should be! I have the catless downpipe because I traded my friend that bought my TVS my Vibrant header/zzp 3" catless for the zzp 2.5" catted downpipe and cash on his end and then I got the zzp shorty header. I was going to run a stock header, but couldn't get myself to do that on the ported head haha. But I drew the line there lol, didn't want to have a full exhaust car as my daily driver, so I chose the cheap and quiet route instead of the little extra power. Even when I go for 300whp on the dyno I will still put the current downpipe and stock exhaust on after. The 5-10whp gain doesn't matter to me much besides for dyno purposes. The other car I turn the happy knob down by my shifter and have 150whp more at my fingertips hehe.

That's a great way to keep you happy/interested with your car.

When ya get bored, just turn up the knob and bam instant happiness from the extra power.

I took it out the other day since it was nice. Missing 2nd gear so just doing 3-4 pulls. Started low around 23psi (500whp) and then decided to crank it to 33 lbs (630whp or so) and did a few 60-130mph pulls and a 65-145 pull. I was smiling

Had another stock blower E85 car on the dyno yesterday. I had previously tuned it before, but it made a few more hp with the cool temps last night. Same bolt ons as me but with a 3" catless downpipe, still stock catback. Stock head and stock cams. 287whp/264wtq. Added an LS4 throttle body and gained 5whp, then with some tuning we squeaked just a little more out of it and ended at 294whp/272wtq. The car makes a TON more power and torque than mine in the mid range and mine doesn't catch up and surpass it until like 6500rpms, and then its minimal. Kind of reinforces my thoughts from before that my cams were maybe from the bad batch, or just simply don't play nice with my head work. I may swap back to the stock cams quick and put it back on the dyno this coming week just to see what happens.

finally some dyno proof of the LS4 Throttle body gains??? How is the tuning and drivability with the LS4?? How is the idle too

My car is already touchy in first between my stiff coilovers, wheel/tire combo, and mounts lol. rather not it be more touchy.

With a properly scaled LS4 it should drive just about like stock. It can easily be manipulated.

Thanks Matt! The header and downpipe makes a huge difference, and E85 would be another really big gain. I think I saw you driving on 45th a couple weeks ago when I was in Fargo!
