Went Back To The Dyno With More Boost And E45

Well Taylor (Infraredline) came up to Canada to hangout this weekend. Brought 20 gallons of E85 with him so he didn't have to switch to pump gas in his winter beater and put some in mine to play . Well we had a blast this weekend! We turned the boost up to 27psi with 24* of timing on 94/E85 blend. Shenanigan race vid coming soon haha. But I decided to see last min if I could get on the rollers again for the hell of it. Unfortunately I couldn't get on my regular dyno for a straight comparison of the 379/307 I made on 22psi and 94 with such short notice. But another local shop said they would. It's a mustang dyno so I was prepared for heartbreaker numbers haha. I made 406/340. But by about 6800 rpm my boost is falling off to 21-22psi (which you will see in the graph). So I either need more waste gate spring or more turbo. I personally think my motor is out flowing the tiny 252ET.

Mods are:

- Gen 3 motor with DI pistons
- ZZP turbo kit with an S252ET turbo
- Ported head
- ZZP S2 cams
- ZZP 3" Catless downpipe
- ZZP 3" Exhaust
- 27psi falling off to 21 by redline
- 94 pump gas/E85 blend

How are the EGTs on E? I know you had issues getting high EGTs on 26psi with just 94

yeah you are maxxing that S252ET out as the boost is dropping that much at redline. good curve and power. its fun to see when the turbo starts to lose its airflow, obviously an s256 you could be at 27 or so psi til redline and it should hold that.

Ya that's true. Knowing you can max out a decent turbo like that is a good feeling haha. Ideally a 256et is what I want to upgrade to. Finding one used and not breaking the bank on a new one is gonna be a super hard find.

On 26psi on pump gas with an unfinished low timing tune was hitting like 1800* ya. Scary ****.

You could crank your WG rod down to see if it will hold. but you could just be flowin more hot air.

Go big, s259et

I'm not opting out of a 259et at all. Just ideally I would like the 256. Good balance of spool and power.

Ya I love the 256et for the LSJ I'd love Mark to get one if the TVS-1900 doesn't pan out

This was such a fun experiment! Told you that you should have made an appointment at the original dyno place ahead of time since I knew you'd fall in love with the car on an E blend Amazing what just a half blend will do isn't it? It's a nice balance at your power level.

It should be noted that at peak power THE BOOST IS 22-22.5 PSI, THE SAME AS ON THE PREVIOUS RUNS. The mid range is where it is higher before the turbo starts falling off. From about 6500 on it levels out to where it has always been since it will not sustain higher boost above that. Although going from 26 to 27 lbs in the midrange picked up 10-12whp and 10-12tq from the initial hit to about 6k or just under it

Will a wastegate spring help or too much airflow and turbo can't keep up

I could try another spring to see but the one in it now is a 15psi spring. So you would think it should hold boost a lot better than that if it was the problem.

Exactly^. I wanted to pull the wastegate off and add some extra spring in, but we didn't have an actual WG spring to add, but I know we could have made something work! Time was short when we realized we were going to be able to dyno though.

Too bad you have no more E to test that out
