$1000 radio issues..electronic gurus help
so i bought a clarion from a place where they deal with audio video installs yada yada yada so they install my **** and all the other speakers and **** i bought so i leave the store 2400 bucks broker but happy cus i have a complete new system with nav and all the bells and whistle. get my car back and **** great everything works fine guy even shows me how to operate everything so good deal, leave the store and go home wake up next day start my car go to work and radio is playing...let my windows down...radio shuts off no power...let go of the window button radio turns back on...raise the window back up radio shuts off and recycles again..so now im like wtf but i dont have time to take it in just yet so let work die down then ill drop it back off....but then today im on the way to a guys house about a hour away and 10 mins into the drive the fucken screen on the radio goes black. i still have lights and everything just no screen so take my car back pissed and they run me stories about my turbo timer fucken with the data thats sent thru my car and the harness not working and they used a GM-LANS04 or something on xSUKOSTx car and his issues still wont fix but we have same 09 TC same greddy turbo timer but diff radios he has a pioneer i think and i have a clarion but units are over a grand in price and he has issues but what am i wondering is do you guys know what harness exactly is for the 09 Cobalt SS/TC with onstar and Pioneer systems and does that sound like something thats even remotely right about the turbo timer might be sending bad data to my radio or the ECU so something is conflicting?
Its possible that the voltage it takes to roll the window down might be enough to turn pull the juice from the radio . you said you had 2400 dollars worth of stuff put in so whats that include huge amps . does the battery have a capacitor on it ?
i was thinking the same thing... oh and please use some punctuation!!! haha
yea they have my car and will switch out the harness.. i guess....the window deal is the LEAST of the problems the most important to me is i have no damn screen on the unit at all.
yea i brought that point up because i might not know how radios work but i know how current and power works so when we talked about it and i saw it in my head i saw big exposion in the radio and told them well if thats the case you will be getting me a new one....so now thinking about it i still pay for XM but i didnt get the 140 harness to run it because i had already spent my ass and i just didnt wana give them more of my life so i said no but im gonna tell these ******* they should atleast throw that in for all my troubles.
Did you tie the turbo timer power into the radio circuit? Thats the only way it should effect the radio. As for the windows. It would have taken them a lot more effort to tie into that circuit, then to use the radio power circuit. You were probably pulling too many amps with all the new equipment and got a low voltage spike. The might have radio "logic locked". Radio and a lot of other modules will lock up just like a Home PC. If you cycle power to the unit it will usually reset and be fine. Mabey get a red top battery. AC delco batteries are junk.
yea the windows work fine..but now im thinking how is it humanly possible to tie into....LIGHT BULB LIGHT BULB LIGHT BULB..
(tell me if this is possible) what if they used the right harness and tapped into the window circuit for onstar/chimes/rap power and another source for actual radio power and now the one of those circuits blew a fuse.

The windows and and the radio are both on the bcm fuse block, and both have their power controlled by the bcm. You probably pulled too much amprage. You may have blown the radio fuse. The lights on the radio might still work because they are probably controlled by the dimmer circuit. The bcm is tempermental. You can easily lock them up, or fry them with low voltage or spikes. Onstar dosent have a window circuit, it gets all it's vehicle data through data on the gm lan.
You didn't really clarify, does the headunit still give you audio and just no screen or is there nothing at all. If you blew the radio fuse, then you would not even have lights on the headunit as you have no power going to it. Sometimes the GMOS harnesses like to act up, and if people have issues with it they will just run their own accessory wire, so perhaps they were trying to run it to the windows for the RAP feature. I mean really it's all just guessing without actually seeing the car and the way the install was done. As far as the unit goes, if you still have audio just no picture then it appears you got a crap unit out of the box.

but that install places problem is with the 09 cobalt they dont know what is the no **** right harness to use with our cars. Brandons car (another member) he has some 311 or something harness thats hardwired into his car and thats like the 4th diff type harness they are "trying" on his car.
Ok, well like I said, that just sounds like a bad unit. I see that crap happen all the time. The correct harness to use in your case would be the gmos-lan-04. It retains onstar and factory amps. You could also look into getting the gmos-100 which is all the GM harnesses in one kit, plus you can retain your bluetooth, steering controls, and sat radio if you had any of all of the above. Here is a link where you can check that harness out, but like I said the Lan04 should work just fine.

Does the radio power up or just the buttons? Can you see the backlight light up on the lcd screen on the radio. Is there audio comming throught the speakers? You had the car running, with the radio loud, and you rolled down the windows and the sterio went blank?
