06 Cobalt LS Wire Harness

Ok i read the sticky post about the wire harness, and not having to buy it. I am just curious if thats just for the SS models. I have a 06 cobalt LS and at the car audio place they said the reason i have to have that special 100 dollar wire harness is because i will lose the ability to see my computerized readout of my oil life, miles and so on. Is this true or can i buy the cheaper version and get away with it? I want to install my pioneer cd player today so anyone who knows this question for sure please respond. thanks

ok i have bought the regular wiring harness. My problem is (and forgive me i am new to this)....there was a red wire that came seperate with the harness.....how do i set that up? The guy said it has to go into my fuse box...but im not sure about that since the end has an attachment for a speaker somewhat and the other end is just the trimmed wire.

The turn on remote wire for an amp is blue. The turn on wire for the head unit is red. The head unit has 2 power wires: one that is hot constant (so it keeps your radio presets etc) and one that is switched to tell it to turn on with the key. The constant hot is yellow, the switched hot is red. You need to connect that red wire to the sunroof fuse via a fuse tap like me and others told xavipheus to do in the thread linked above.
