1000w RMS <$100

OK, so I am doing some investigation and just thought I would ask why prices vary so much when it comes to amps? By this I mean, I found this amp

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...ik+V408XT.html

is <100 bucks and is 500x2 @ 2 ohm. I figure this would power a pair of Type R's without fail right?

How come a comparible alpine amp costs 500 bucks?

Is there something I am missing?

Wont a Visonik 500x2 @ 2 ohm RMS amp run the speakers just the same as if I used a Alpine 500x2 @ 2 ohm RMS ?

also is that a good combo? 2 type R's w/ a 2 channel 500w rms amp?

No way thats RMS. It has to be peak, if that.

The old saying is generally true, especially in a situation like this... You get what you pay for. I wouldnt buy it but thats just me.

I'm saying, I had two monoblock amps from Soundstream that did a true 1000w RMS and they used 90 amps worth of fuses, and these things were EFFICIENT AS HELL.

Efficiency = the ability to convert power into sound without losing it as heat.

Higher Efficiency = More output wattage per input wattage.

There's no way an non-class-D amplifier is going to put out 1000w RMS while using less than 50amps for less than 100 bucks

Impossible.

Even my old sony amps that put out 500w RMS use 80 amps of fuses.

I agree, Online Car Stereo have some way good deals. but with car audio im usually one to buy something thats made from a "big name" company.. thats just me. But it comes down to money! 99 bucks for an amp with those ratings.. why not at least try it?

I bought an alpine amp, with my 10' type r, and it sounded pretty good, if your buying alpine why not stick with alpine? why pay a little more for a sub then less for an amp....

The type R is a Dual Voice Coil sub. That means I will need a mono block amp that can do 1 ohm stable right?

HOW DO YOU KNOW IF A AMP CAN DO 1 OHM STABLE, AS MOST ADVERTISE 4 and 2 ohm only

I was looking at this amp

http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-2008-ORION-H...QQcmdZViewItem

since the type R is 1500w peak, that should be fine, even though they say the type R is 500 RMS>?

I didnt even think of that! Thanks!

so if I did that, I could use a 2 ohm amp.

Now my question is, is there any sound difference when using 2 ohm vs 1 ohm. May be a stupid question but thought I would ask anyway

I went with

1 4ohm x 4ohm Type R 12

1 600w RMS Alpine @ 2 ohm

may be a little more wattage then the sub is spec'd for but I heard it shouldnt be a problem

2.0CF box tuned to 32 hz

The stock cobalt battery/alternator should be able to handle a 600w RMS sub without a cap right?
