2005 Cobalt LS Battery/Alternator Question

How many amps can I run with the stock battery and alternator?

I need to get a good aftermarket alternator to where I can run 2500watts (about 200 amps) of power

Not sure if I need a new battery, can someone tell me the specs of the stock battery?

you can run it on the stock battery but i would upgrade the battery if i were you...also look in to the big 3 upgrade....

btw the stock alt puts out 105 amps....not sure on the battery tho cuz i havent had a stock battery in a while

alright i was just checking cause people rms and watts confused alot...

your def going to need a new battery, and i would HIGHLY recommend the big 3...a second battery wouldnt be a bad idea either or upgrade to a high output alternator and you should be fine with 1 battery....

Ill try to let you know later next week. My buddy is finishing my box and doing a few other things I don't feel like doing on Wednesday. Granted I'm only running just shy of 2000 watts rms but I did get a 200 amp alternator. Ill be running 0 gauge from the front to the battery (I have a yellow top) so we'll see how it goes.

What subs/amps are you going to be running?

Well scratch that idea for now. I spent a good portion of the day trying to get my stock alternator out. When I finally did I found out the connection for the voltage regulator? on the new alternator is different from the stock one. I think for now I am just gonna go with the big 3 (already ran the 0 gauge today to the battery) and the stock alternator unless I see the need for the upgrade when everything is finally installed. I have to get in touch with the guy who did mine and see what he says.

A note for anyone with a LNF who wants to take the alternator out:

Take out the entire airbox assembly. It is possible to get it out in the opening after that. Make sure the pulley is facing down and the side of the alternator with the two bolt holes is facing in toward the engine bay. That was the only way I was able to get it out. Its a huge ******* pain in the ass if you don't know what you are doing.

i think your gunna find that a new alt is a worth while upgrade...with 2500rms and the big 3 done + 2 yellow tops i can make my voltage drop from 13.6 to 12v pretty easily

Yeah I know it is. I had a 200amp alternator in my old Firebird with the same system and it helped a lot. Its just that getting out the stock one was such a pain in the ass I really don't feel like doing it again lol. Really it depends on what the guys tells me. If he says he'll ship me a new one and take the other one back for free I'll definitely put it in at some point. If I end up getting shafted some how I'll probably put off getting another new one for a while.

Where did you get the 200 amp alt?

Do the LNF's have the same alt as the LSJ's?

I got it from excessive amperage. Nate is a great guy to work with. He apologized and is building me a new one asap. I'm assuming the LSJ and the LNF have different connectors and I'm guessing that is where mine went wrong. If anyone has a photo of the LSJ connector Ill gladly let you know for sure.
