2007 HU DOES work in a 05-06 ....vid

Finally figured out how to manipulate the Tech2 scan tool to communicate with the 2007 radio tonite . What a pita , the normal way u do a vin relearn in a 05-06 doesnt work Thanks god there was a brilliant tech there that knew ALOT about the radios and all the PCM and BCM changes to the 2007 , and he got it done .

Here's a vid of it working in my 2005.

Pics for those who care less about a vid

-Unfortunately the radio controls do not work properly . The volume works like it should and that it . The seek up button now mutes the volume . The "band" button will seek up thru the presets or seek thru the tracks on a CD , the mute button will do the opposite , seek down on both presets and CD tracks . None of the other radio control functions work .

- Both XM and Onstar work amazingly . I have to call XM though to refresh my original XM reciever radio ID I also have to do a module relearn on the XM reciever thru tech2 ....we ran out of time tonite . It plays all the stations , it just wont show the station # or any info . When its on XM it just says XM0 .

- Everything else works perfectly . The EQ is better in this radio than the 05-06's ....its got a adjustment for mids too . Its not "amazingly " better , but I could get a little more quality sound with the extra mid adjustment .

I should have a how to up by the weekend . For those of you that wanna do it and a really good at electronics , what I posted below should be all the info u need .

2005 connector# and pin # / cross to 2007 conector&pin# / function / wire color
b1 > C1 (pin# 1 ) +voltage from BCM /white/red
B9 > C1 ( pin 9) GMLAN wire /dark green
A10 > C2(pin 14) 10 volt reference /white/black
A9 > C1 (pin 11) Steering wheel controls signal /dark blue
L > C2 (pin 16 ) cellular telephone voice low reference / orange/black
M > C2 ( pin 8 ) cell tele voice signal / pink/black
H > C2 ( pin 2) right audio common + / dark green/white
J > C2 ( pin 1 ) Left audio common + / Brown/white
K > C2 ( pin 9 ) audio common / tan/white
B3 > C2 ( pin 15) Remote signal / pink
B6> C2 ( pin 3) Radio on signal / Light green
A1> C1( pin 6) left front - / dark green
A2>C1 ( pin 7 ) left front+ / Tan
A8>C1(pin4) right front - / light green
A7> C1 ( pin 5) right front + / light green/white
A6> C2 ( pin 7) left rear - / brown
A5>C2 ( pin 6 ) left rear + / brown/white
A3>C2 ( pin 5 ) right rear - / tan
A4> C2 ( pin 4 ) right rear + / Dark blue
A12> C1 ( pin 8 ) Ground / black/white

Antenna adapter part #'s . You need 2 of them to get the Old GM style to the new .
Metra part # 40-GM10 .....takes Cobalt antenna to a motorola F style $14.95
Metra part # 40-CR20 ......take the motorla F to new style coaxial ( chrysler style ) $19.95

2007 GM radio male connectors with leads ( reverse harnesses that plug into the radio )
Metra part # 71-2104 ( this comes with both connectors ) $19.95

The dealer is the only place that can unlock the radio . PM me if your dealer cant figure out how . It took 4 attempts over a few days to figure out how to get around the normal procedure of reprogramming a radio . All the normal ways , the scan tool will not communicate with the Radio at all . Also check the XM module , u may need to do a relearn on that too to get full communication with the radio

Overall Im pleased , definately worth the time . It was nice to beable just plug in my ipod and play stuff off that .

I hate to be an ass and all, but this sure looks like a lot of work for really not that much better of a radio. Why did you just not get a good H/U and install that? I read your other post and maybe I missed something, please enlighten me on why you went thru all this trouble'

Thanks,
Art

For one, a stock HU is less appealing to thieves than an aftermarket one.
Thats almost enough for me right there. Aside from that, whats not to love about 6 CD + MP3 AND an AUX port? Does suck about all the buttons not working properly though.

Maybe so, but I guarantee you if I was breaking into either one of your cars it would not be for the radio, it would be for the car...LOL. It just seems like alot of work and the radio is still not working properly. I had mine installed, soldered, and amp hooked up in about 4 hours and I have all that cept for the 6 disc which I dont need anyway, plus a remote control for my lazy ass!!

Yeah, all this work, all these threads, who cares? If your going to put in a new radio get an aftermarket one. So pointless IMO for something that offers really no upgrade capability.

Aftermarket HU's look like ass in almost all cars , unless its a Navi ....that my opinion . Im not upgrading my Audio system any further than this . So I dont need extra expansion a aftermarket HU would provide . I wanted the 6-disc and to the ipod , I got the radio cheap ...imo , theres not a negative in there .

FYI - wiring the radio up only took about an hour . And trying to get tech 2 to read it was spread out about 3 times over a couple weeks totaling about 1.5 hours max . It may have seemed like all I did was work on this , but the opposite is true ...I worked on it very little over a few week period

Different strokes for different folks ....lets just leave it at that in this thread Im glad u like ur aftermarket HU ....I like my OEM one .

Thats cool man, I figured it was something like that. I am into sound quality Vs. looks but I commute 1hour-2hour one way so my preference is a little different.

I had a local audio shop order it . Its not a part anyone will stock because it a repair harness for a stock 06-07 radio . Most salvage yards will inclue the harnesses with the radio when u buy . The place I bought mine thru had the interior harness sold , so I couldnt get the connectors .

I dunno what to do about the radio controls . Somebody smarter than me would have to tackle that one . The wiring diagram for the 05 and 07 radio controls shows the same ohms values for each function .

YellowLT - Not a chance in the world The circuit boards are build with robots and custom fixtures to solder .

....yea , definately post your info too . Because the Tahoe wiring should be different than the Cobalts . Im jus trying to keep this all str8 so people that do this know what their buying . Thats sweet the Tahoe version works too . List the part# for the radio you used too when you post your stuff .

The HHR version 100% will not work . The Radio face plate is too wide to get the bezel back on and the support post on the back is in the wrong location .

You truly are a pioneer! Now that I know it can be done, this looks like a fun summer project! I probably won't be able to do it, but I hope I can!

Thanks Jimmy ....now , to get the radio controls to work right . Its just resistor values Look for used , I picked up this radio for $200 at a junk yard found on car-part.com . Most of the yards that have listings , list the part # as well . So its easily searchable .

Why can't you just get an 07 steering wheel and harness adapter and go all out if you truely want radio controls?
