2009 Headunits are swappable

Thanks to someone on here, I picked up a new headunit with USB from a 2009 Cobalt. Wasn't sure 100% if it was swappable into other years, since the 07+ HU aren't a simple swap into 05s and 06s, but figured what the hell. Once I had the dealer unlock the thing, it fired right up and is 100% plug and play with my 07 Cobalt. All the steering wheel buttons work as they should, the USB works as it should, no compatibility issues whatsoever. Dealer warned me that XM might have compatibility issues but since I don't use XM, I ignored it. I already loaded up a 4GB flashdrive with music and I'm all set to go, no more CDs!

On a side note, the turn signal ticking noise is different than my 07. On mine it sounded very "computerized" when the signal was on, but this new one uses a different sound that actually makes it sound like a flasher is installed. I thought that was neat.

Related note:

crutchfield now lists digital media headunits that have front SD ports and rear USB ports but no CD unit for quite cheap.

Different dealers can charge different amounts. It all depends on how well the tech knows his radios and how to work their software.

Great info man!! I may have to look into this. I never went aftermarket with my 06 SS/SC because I wanted to retain the steering wheel controls and all I really wanted was the USB connection. I didn't want to spend all the money on the pac system to retain steering wheel controls and I don't use XM either. Awesome Post.

Yeah but you still won't be able to do much in this case if your car is an 06, as any deck from 07 and beyond can't be swapped in and work perfectly in 05s and 06s without having to do a lot of rewiring and such.

I believe they do, but I'm not 100% sure. The USB is still an option so there are a few versions of the HU to choose from.

Yes, my 09 LT deck is black. The heater/AC control section is also black.

Prices for this aren't fixed, what I paid for everything will likely not be what someone else pays for it. It all depends on who you buy the HU from and what dealer you go to.

Just a quick question. Does anyone have the part number for the HU? Also, NCC, Did you install the mic for the bluetooth or did you not choose to install this with your setup.

I am wondering if the mic plugs into the headunit directly or if you need to plug it into a harness that the '07's do not have.

If anyone knows, this would help me out a ton!

The mic is apparently a part of the OnStar system, so unless you have it I don't think you can get bluetooth working.

Yeah I would like to swap out my 09 headunit for and 09 headunit that has the usb port.
My 09 SS only came with the 3.5mm aux input jack.
How much for the swapout.
