After market remote starter?

Has anyone installed a remote starter on a cobalt? I have installed one before on my sunbird. Just curious what all is involved.

1 relay, 1 bypass module, about 12 connections, and alot of planning for wire routing since half your wires go to the ignition harness and transponder harness and half go to the BCM wires which take probing with a DMM to find the right ones. overall the hardest part was wire routing. can take pictures if requested.

What was the relay for? And i am assuming the bypass was for security.

depends on what year cobalt you have, i have an 06 but i had to use one for the transpoder harness....if i recall it was the red wire coming off it. you have to cut the red wire and put it to 30 and 87a and the status wire coming from the remote start is 85 while a 12v+ constant is on 86 of course.

I'm installing an aftermarket remote start on my girlfriend's 2008 cobalt and the thing just isn't working.

I've searched and googled for days and haven't found anything that is of any help. I'm figuring it's something simple but haven't found any answers yet.

I have all of my wires routed except for the Start on the ignition switch. I've probed with my meter and can't seem to find a wire that is hot when the car is cranking - am I missing something?

The car is a base unit - no keyless entry, security, power locks, windows, etc. I've seen mentions of bypasses for factory alarm systems but haven't seen much in terms of the start signal.

Any help is appreciated!! thanks!

no starter wire near ignition. the car cranks in a different manner. the crank is controlled by the BCM. if you have a manual cobalt, you need to run the starter wire from the remote start to the clutch wire which is behind the OBDII connector. even if the car is base it has a transponder system on the key which you will need a bypass for.

gotcha... that makes sense.

all of the searching ive done for bypass modules keeps mentioning factory alarm systems so it's been throwing me for a loop. forgot about those sneaky keys!

Thanks for the answer, hopefully I can get what I need at a best buy or car security shop
