Aftermarket deck overheating!! help!!!

SO I got the Kenwood 528 for Xmas, installed it, a few weeks after, I'm driving around and the sound suddenly starts to fade out. I shut it off, put it back on, it's OK for a few minutes, then it starts acting up again. I go to the dealer, get it sent to Kenwood, get a loaner in the meantime, it does the same thing. Get back mine, Kenwood says there';s nothing wrong with it, but it keeps doing it.

I'm fed up so I upgraded to an Alpine deck yesterday.

Anyone had any problems like this with Kenwood decks, or any other deck , in their Cobalt?

what are you running off of it? Mids and highs? If so, it might be getting over worked. It also sounds like you might have a power and ground touching some where. But it sounds like the deck is getting over worked.

I've got a new Kenwood deck (in my sig) and haven't had any problems as of yet. The deck is cool to the touch. In fact, the stock deck was warmer.

The deck was installed at the dealer I bought it, with a wiring harness bought there too. I bought new Kenwood speakers doors and in the back, kept doing it. Another Kenwood distributor nearby has the same problems with some of it's decks.

As long as it's not a Coblat problem, I'm OK. Haven't run the new Alpine long enough to see if it'll do it again. I tought maybe the wiring harness is defective. I'll change it next if this keeps up.
PS: you solution is not practicle up north, Sherman!!

Yeah, I had this problem with my first Kenwood unit. After about 15 minutes of being turned up at 50% volume it would overheat, start to distort and I would have to turn it down. It was such a waste of money, I will never buy a Kenwood headunit again. However, I currently have a Kenwood amp, and it hasn't let me down once in the year and a half ive had it.

Good choice with the Alpine. Personally I like Pioneer head units, they don't have any heat issues in my experiences and they come with lots of options, plus I love the way they look
