Just curious if any of you guys have had a problem with your aftermarket headunit blowing the factory amp for the pioneer system. I was driving home yesterday and it just blew when i was listening at a decent level. smelled like electrical fire so when i got home i pulled the amp out and looked at it after taking the heatsink off and saw the middle transistor's contacts were burnt off. i plan on putting all of the stock radio equipment in and taking it in for a warranty repair but i was just curious if any of you have had this issue before. BTW i have a panasonic 7103u head unit.

I have never heard of this, but I suppose it is possible.

 

Ive heard of this before but it is usually only on the higher performance sound systems that come from the factory like the bose or infinite. With them you have to get an amp bypass kit to the actual headunit can set on fire. One of my friends had this happen in a thunderbird and it literally blew into flames and burnt some of the interior. I dont think you have to worry about just factory systems that arnt the high performance ones.

 

it actually happened to me yesterday... its a 50wx4 radio going into the amp. I have had this setup in other vehicles using the stock amp to still power the speakers. I was just wondering if it had been a problem anyone else has seen. As i see it i have a couple of options. i could either take all the aftermarket stuff out and put the factory equipment back in and get a warrenty repair or i could bypass it. Do they mae a bypass adapter for our cars or will i have to wire it myself. I have the wireing diagram so i could do it but i was just wondering

 

where is the amp even located in the car? most cars have it in the trunk or under a front seat but i havnt been able to locate it

 

I think someone said it's under the steering wheel in the dash, or something like that...check the how-to section. Someone wrote it up there.

 

Its under the drivers side of the dash and i have my stereo turned up al the way all the time and have yet to have a problem.
