Aftermarket Install FAQ
New ss/sc owner. PO installed aftermarket touch screen and cut the wiring instead of using a harness. Screen went out on it. I have installed several systems but none with all the electonics the cobalt has. After mathching the wires with old radio to new, but having to run new constant hot and acc turn on wire i dont have sound,PO had installed external amp with old wiring/rca's still ran but not hooked up. The maintenance screen also doesnt work now. Any advice on what isnt hooked up? thanks for any help here.
Hooked the speaker wires to the same wires that were previously used. The amp wire either wasnt hooked up before or had come loose, i have tried it both ways with it hooked up to remote wire and not hooked up. From reading other posts, if a aftermarket amp is used as PO had done, do you not have to bypass the factory amp?
you can bypass the factory amp if the speakers were replaced but if you are running stock speakers you should interface with it.
check the wire colors and make sure you are using the right ones. you may even want to disconnect all the speaker wires and amp turn on ect and just have the radio power acc and ground. see if that fixes the DIC issue.

installed a pioneer avic-f900bt. had gps, bluetooth, and dvd playback etc.
didn't take many pics of the lengthy install but after a few days of jerking around i got it all sorted out. wired a switch so i don't have to deal with the ebrake, mounted the gps antenna behind a rear headrest, and got rid of the stock onstar mic so i had a place to hide the bluetooth microphone. out of sight, out of mind
also ran the included usb wire and a new headphone jack wire to come out by the ebrake.

New Install
I know these cars are getting old but I see a lot of them still running around here in really good shape so maybe someone may still be interested in installing a new radio.
My daughters car is a 2009 coupe with OnStar and Pioneer sub. I ordered the kit off eBay - you’ll want one that includes the GMOS-LAN-04 because I was unsure if the car had the amp or not. https://www.ebay.com/itm/142423826424 You also need to order the ASWC-1 separately if you want to keep the steering wheel controls. I also ordered an USB/aux plug that replaces the lighter.
The install was fairly easy and straightforward using online tutorials showing how to take the trim and radio out. One thing I did have to do was do a bit of trimming in the dash but I did not cut the metal support - it unscrews with the right deep socket and patience. If you go with a smaller head unit you may not have to worry about it, especially if you go with a mechless unit.
I installed a Pioneer AVH-X391BHS that I got on Black Friday last fall. It’s an ok unit but I wanted Apple CarPlay in my car so this got handed down. Remember if you go with a Pioneer HU you’ll need to get a parking brake bypass.
The only real problem I had was programming the steering wheel control. A call to the manufacturer got me squared away.
