Alpine with factory steering wheel controls

Anybody out there connect an Alpine hed unit to the factory steering wheel controls on their 2005 Cobalt? I saw that they have the option, and I was curious how much it costs and whether or not it works well.

The steering controls works only if you have the steering program piece. It's a company called Axxess, the part # is ASWI-JACK.
It works as long as you follow the instructions to the 'T'. And the price is about 80 bucks.

The reason that I ask is that if you look at the higher end Alpine head units, they have an Alpine branded adapter that works with factory steering controls. I would expect it to be cheaper than the universal one since it is a direct plug-in. There is no pricing on their website. I just was curious if anyone else did this.

If your head unit has a wired remote/wheel control plug then you can find brand-specific 3rd party units.

I successfuly installed a universal one (PAC-SWI-X) that mimics the IR wireless remote for my JVC unit. had to route the IR led up the A-pillar and have it poking out the bottom of my rear view mirror. I think it was under $50
