alpine type s/type r
right on, right up my alley, so we have to look at alpine in three diffrent groups, S, R and X (we won't touch on X)
Okay so S, Entry level subs, great subs, really meant for shallow mount boxes, great for trucks or vehicles with little space, but still great kick, the rms and peak ratings are lower but still great bang for your money
R, Step up from S, a little more solid construction, surround construction allows for more movement and as well it will handle more power... produces deeper bass and louder bass..
your other option are Type E's really they are like the type S's, a lot cheaper... made for cats who want some bang for little cash..
now to actually see the diffrenceyou gotta hear them in a car side by side... or demo board.. slight diffrences but you'll notice the diffrence...
the speakers are the same way, its all construction
S, are a great step up from stock.. you'll notice clarity and crisp mids and lows...
R, you'll notice amazing clarity, very crisp mids and lows, all depending on how you power them though..
Personally I loved the Type S speakers... little more trebel compared to the R which has a lower deeper sound to them
seriously to explain anything is one thing, BUT you need to actually get to a place witha demo board, they'll be able to switch between the two sets and let you hear the diffrences for your self..
but, yes there is a diffence, but the question is, are you looking to be entering SPL comps? if not go with what is in your price range, and I promise you R or S you won't regret it either way

good write up.
i've been poking around for speakers ans sub for my project camao and i've been leaning towards the R series. i checked them out at bestbuy and was impressed with the sound for the money

thanks for the info, but either or is up my price range
now for speakers, u said they are basically the same except rms and peaks
subwoofers, will i notice the difference between 2 10inch type r's running at 1000rms vs. 2 10inch type s's running at 600rms?

yea really like i said, peak and rms handling, as well as the variance in frequency is diffrent, the type r's sound deeper and more rich, the type s's have clear trebel and good mids ..
the subs yes, 2 10 type r's at 1000vrms will always be a lil louder than 2 10 type s at 600
you'll notice the r's will hit those lower bass frequencies more than the s's will

yea but for $35 more i can get the type r 6.5s and 6x9s
and for $70 more i can get the type r subs over the type s's
so for $105 more i can get all type r stuff over all type s

like I said up to you man, seriously though go to a store with a demo board and ask to listen to the type s's and type r's than make your decision!
personally i would get the r mids if your going alpine. but like miller said its really personal preference. my personal preference i don't like the the type s speakers. subs not bad but nothing too special either
so ur saying the type r subs running at 500rms each wont hit hard?
