Amp Overheating...

Ok I Have a Pheniox Digital 1000W amp With a 1F AudioBahn Cap and one 12" AW1251T AudioBahn Sub. Now My Amp OVer Heats After About 10 mins of use, unless i have rear windows down. I believe CC installed a 1200 Watt amp kit. Could That be the reason. Just making sure. if So ima just buy a new amp and eventually 12W7 :P.

umm
what size wire are you using?
is the amp wired with too low resistance for the subs?
do you have a good ground, and clean power?

if you dont know what you're doing, why are you buying a 12w7??

Mmmm 12w7... very very worth the money.

Also, make sure that all your wire connections including the speakers are making good contact. I had a loose wire on one of he voice coils and it sent it into pretection mode.

ok as an installer the first thing i'm gonna check is to see what resistence the sub is wired at....and whether the amp can handle it. If the amp is not rated to handle say a 2 ohm mono load and you have it wired that way that will kick the thermal protect on the amp and make it shut off the way you are describing it. The next thing i would check would be the gauge of wire you are using....i personally run 4 or lower in all my vehicles you can usually tell by looking at the rms power of the amp anything more then say 400 watts rms really needs 4 ga wire...after that the ground would be a def canidate...if i'm not mistaken the cobalts are uni-bodys which means if they have it grounded right it can get a weak ground and kick off....hope that helps
