Stereos and Onstar: Useful Info (Maybe)

Ok, so I may be the first person to attempt anything like this with the Onstar and Pioneer setup but hopefully this helps.

Today me and my buddy installed my Pioneer AVIC-N2 GPS/DVD Player in my car and I just wanted to let everyone know if you have Onstar in your car and are not sure what will be affected by installing an aftermarket stereo here is what I found out:

- Disconnecting the factory radio harness will NOT affect door chimes
- It will NOT affect your driver information on the dash
- It will NOT throw a check engine light

I also have the Pioneer option on my car (pain in the ass when installing) if anyone wondered. I did however lose Onstar service in my car which I don't care because it is useless to me anyway. I was going to wait for an Onstar harness for the new GM-LAN cars but no one wants to develop one yet so screw it. Tomorrow I am installing new rear speakers, front speakers, my backup camera, steering wheel control interface, microphone for navigation, and a whole bunch of fun stuff. I think I am going to post a tip sheet on how to put all this stereo stuff in because there is a fair share of tricks involved especially when you have more electronic devices in your car than a space shuttle.

Did you have to bypass the factory amp or just hook up the new deck?

I bypassed the amp altogether and ran new wires for my RF 4 channel amp.

Avic-n2 is really nice but in our cars the best one to go w/is the avic-d1 basically the same thing but it's a double din chassis so it fits in w/out a dash kit...did one in a trailblazer the other day and it looked factory beautiful screen and the nav was on point
