amp turn on lead

i finally installed my headunit in my car and it works awesome. Sounds 50 times better than stock. The only question i have is should i install a fuse on my amp turn on lead or is that lead already fused by the accessory wire and battery wire?

putting a fuse on the turn on lead is pointless. it's used just to send a minute 12v signal to the amp to say "go ahead and suck power". the fuse on the power lead (from your battery) is what's important. if you've tapped the interior fuse block for your turn-on lead you're taken care of... well... depending on what side of the fuse you grabbed, but it doesn't really matter in general.

Put it this way... I accidently pinched a remote wire under the seat bracket in a car I once had. The amp would stay on all the time (ground loop feeding back into the amp), and when I turned the car one, there was a nasty drone that came from the subs.

It took me about 10 minutes to figure it out, but the remote wire wasn't even warm. Like bc3tech said, there's only about .005 amps (5 mA)of juice going through that wire.

Like the other guys said - there's usually not much current going through it.

HOWEVER, depending on the head unit, I've heard stories where a shorted remote wire will take out the remote wire circuit of the head unit.

Ya' know what... my bad.

What I said only applies if you running the remote wire from the back of the head unit.

If you're running a remote lead off the fuse panel, it's best to jump off the terminal behind/after the fuse, or run a seperate fuse shortly after you jump off the fuse panel.

yea my remote wire is coming off my headunit, i also installed a switch with a led to turn on and off my amp whenever i want because i get sick of the bass sometimes so it's easier just to have a switch.

Does anyone know how much current a little led that comes in a switch uses?
