anti-theft

So while out of town,a neighborhood lowlife tried to steal my 08 colt lt with auto trans.
I discovered the column torn apart. I figured out where everything went and put it all back together except
the actual ignition switch was damaged. The actual switch not the lock cylinder.
So I ordered a new on and installed it.
I can not get out of theft mode. I have tried the 10 min switch on 10sec switch off. dont work.
dash icon is said to blink after 10 min. but mine dont.
I have tried this about 30 times seriously. Also tried the door lock hold key 30 second method. Dont work.
all fuses are good. Battery 12.5 v
HELP PLEASE SOMEONE!!

You're going to have to take it to a dealer, they'll confirm all the wiring is correct and will likely need the Tech2 and GM codes to program everything correctly.

Well then enjoy the paperweight, from your description no one online can help.

The attempted theft has likely triggered an theft reaction in the anti-theft and potentially locked the system down, knowing GM it likely cannot be reset without a tech2 and probably some GM code only dealers have access to.

Yea, its unfortunate but your gonna have to bring it into a dealer man. I'm a tech at a dealer and once the theft has been tripped (and you have also replaced the ign switch which on most requires the same procedure) the immobilizer system is going to have to be reset/reprogrammed using our sps program (service programming system). Honestly they are also going to need to recheck the column wiring, theft module, and also the circuits to the ign switch, bcm, and theft module to make sure nothing was damaged that a untrained eye wouldn't be able to spot. Something as simple as a terminal slightly backed out of a connector or spread when they were trying to hot wire it would brick the car. Could have also blown some fuses for the ign switch, bcm, and theft module. Too many things that could go wrong very easily when theft attempts are made. I know bc I've had to fix a lot of them, and its always easier and cheaper when the cust hasn't tried to fix it themselves bc that can hide problems we would have been able to spot when it was torn apart by the thief's.

Thank you for the reply and enlightenment. I have done some research thus making myself especially
dangerous. So far I have determined it is a passkey 111+ system.
I've seen methods for bypassing'. I don't want it fixed.I want it gone,
These procedures are common for after market remote starters.
I suppose what I really am asking is guidance on getting rid of it all together.

GM really made it difficult. They knew they would make money on it.

From what I currently know there isnt a bypass for the 08+ security. I know hp tuners can disable it on certain 07 and down ecms but i do not know of any workarounds on 08+. If there is one you would likely end up spending more money and time to do that than it would be just to get it fixed.

I mean, this is vandalism, so your insurance may cover this as the dash was ripped apart, or if it's a write-off; take that money and find yourself an SS

I would guess they have liability only, it is only a cobalt ya know , we are the only ones with enough lack of sense to have full coverage on ours.

Right?
Although I also drive on one of the most busiest highways in North America, so that's my excuse.

A looooong time ago (early to mid 90's), my dad had an early 80's Chevy C10. You could definitely pull the key out of the ignition while it was running... and it'd keep on running.
