I am a fan of them, with my last set-up I had two CVR 15"s with an Interfire 1200watt 2 channel amplifier (can't recall model). I used them in a single slot port set-up in my sunfire and loved the deep sound, decent sound quality in the ported set-up for me.

JL are over rated and over priced. There are many not so popular companies out there that make speakers for half the price and equal quality. JL is just so comon place that they are used as a bench mark of quality, and people that don't go out and listen to a lot of equipment think JL is gods gift to car audio. JL is good but not worth it IMO.

Kicker products for the most part are great for a budget and give you alot of boom but fall short on sound quality. For metal this would probably not be the sub of choice and I would drop down to a 10" or 12" at the largest unless you look for a 15 made for sound quality.

In general (there are many exceptions out there but in general) 15" are made for slow very deep bass hits. The rapid thrash in metal will make most 15" subs sound muddy.

+1 on the bass 15 is more of a southern hip hop type speaker...but just to let u in on how i have come to my conclusion on jl...being so expensive i actually buy mine from online vendors in the same situation as the stuff on here so its actually pretty cheap and compairs to others and the problem with kicker ( and i know this for sure because i live next to the border) is reburbished like crazy in mexico and resold at normal prices...u cant trust what u get from kicker anymore unless u pay crutchfield or something of that nature which is just as expensive as jl....and w6's by far blow anything out of the water at the same amount of watts...

Not true at all.

Best amps:

Zapco, mmats, usamps

Subs:

RE Audio, Diamond, ID

Speakers:

Dynaudio, Morel, Focal, Rainbow, Diamond

JL is good consumer level stuff, it's not too expensive, it's overpriced because anything decent is priced almost even with pro level stuff. I'm sorry but I would take this over any JL Setup:

Subs: 2 Diamond D9's
Sub Amps: 2 Zapco DCREF1100.1
Mids/Highs: Focal Utopia BE's (N7 Kit)
M/H Amp: Zapco DCREF360.4

That would own on anything JL could ever dream of putting out.

Why does everyone jump to the suggestions on the JL audio, are they great products?? yes.. but are there better products out there that are cheaper and better quality/performance? hell yea. Look at Silver_Fox's reply about amps and subs I would add a little more to it though:
Amps: could throw in Hifonics (cheap power) or some ED Nine.1's
Subs: Can't forget Memphis, atomic, soundstream even has great products

Your best bet go to your local audio shop and just listen to different set-ups with your type of music, therefore you get the only opinion that matters is your own. To each there own and I hate to see you go and drop money based on what others think and come about that you hate it

You guys are right there are some stuff missing from my list, Hifonics is not in the top quality stuff for amps, I think I should have had ED in there though. Subs I could have thrown the FiQ and the Si Mag in there but the Mag is geared more towards SPL and I could give a **** about SPL but then again the XXX is all SPL too... There is a lot of good stuff out there that wasn't mentioned ex. brax, memphis...

from the info i learned on ED from thier edead sound deadener im would never put any of thier products reguardless of what it is in my car... ill take my chances with walmart **** because at least i know its **** vs having to find out

the XXX and si mag arent spl woofers but very much LSQ because they do sound nice just get loud as well. One of these days i can show you a MT and show u wat SPL sounds like (on low volumes it sounded decent but after pumping it up they sound like ****)
