Anyone Remove Door Speakers yet?

I am going to be swaping out the speakers in the front doors in the next couple of days. Has anyone done this yet? Anything I should know or look out for before I do it? Hints?

if you didnt get the premium sound system, get a dremel. youll have to cut off the old speaker and screw the new on onto its plastic mounting ring.... thats about it.

On the non-premium systems the speakers have an odd shaped plastic addapter (the premium system may have this too I don't know). The opening is shaped more like a 5x7 than a 6.5.

i hate them too, thats why i just take a foam one and cut it in half and use it as a hat if you will for the speaker, to keep water off it but keeping the airspace the same

My Base stereo Cobalt had the plastic attached to the Speaker, I screwed my 6.5"s to the door (with 3 screws) and no problems. The premium system in the SS had a plastic adapter that came off the speaker, I kept them for use with the new 6.5's and it worked ok, keeps the speaker from hitting the window and gives me 4 points to screw too. When I do My SS, my 6.5's are bigger (magnet size) then the other ones, so i will need to make a plate out of MDF.

By the way, why do we use MDF and not a HDF board?

I made baffles for my Camaro to put 6.5's in place of the 6X9's...didn't even think of doing that on the Cobalt.

I just drilled 2 holes and mounted the speakers that way.
