Question Audio Guys: NEED HELP!!!

Hey guys I'll make this as short as possible.

Went to Chronic Car Audio and got a double-din DVD player. Well theey told me that I HAD to have this special bo modual thing that GM makes for all new cars. The guy said it's NEEDED to make everything with the DVD player work right and not mess up the cars computer, Bla Bla Bla. So I'm like "okay if i absolutly NEED this thing fine, put it in". (I like to do things the right way, and I know that I don't know everything, so I take the guys advise)
Well I get home and look at the receipt and this NEEDED part is called a "Door Chime Modual".
You gotta be kidding me!

Please, someone out there tell me that they didn't have me spent an extra 100 bucks just to have a door chime. If anyone can give any info on this I would apreciate it. I have never heard of this part before.

Thanks guys!!!

Correction:
YOU ONLY NEED IT IF YOU HAVE XM/ONSTAR. Otherwise you got ripped.

Okay here is Part 2:

They didn't have the part in stock, so they "made it work for now", and have the part on order. Well it's been almost 2 months and it (Door chime mod) hasn't got installed. The DVD player works fine, and my doors chime the same as always.

Any more input guys?

it should work fine. u dont need that 100 dollar harness. it does nothing. it supposed to keep the radio on for 10min. with out the key. if u tap into the sunroof fuse for ur accy. it will stay on for 10min. and it shud still chime. no need for it.

You do not need the door chime module at all. I don't have it and everything works the way it should on my car. Like what was said above you only need a special harness if you have onstar and want to keep it.

It has nothing to do with anti theft. I know my 02 and 04 Grand Am had a class 2 data system and required a special harness to retain door chimes and warning chimes. I'm sure there were other vehicles that required it but the Cobalt isn't one of them.

ok the reason that the push the "100 dollar" part so hard it the fact if you have an RDS radio some of the factory functions are run through the radio ex. door chime, airbag warning chime, low fuel chime, blah blah blah, you lose a lot of warning chimes in short. Also if you have a picky dealer they will deny warranty work because the "aftermarket" radio does not allow these features to work, again is is only if you have an RDS radio, the easiest way to tell is unplug the radio....stick ur key in the ign open the door and if the stock chime still works then you DO NOT have the RDS radio and you DO NOT need the 100 dollar harness

You only need a special adapter if you have Onstar, dont listen to someone who hasn't done any audio/video mods

who are youy refering to, because if you have an RDS radio then the harness is a good choice, and in some cases you WILL lose onstar. the harness is also used to interface the BOSE system as well. and trust me i have more aduio video mods than i care to remember, plus when you do this for a living you want to know as much as possible to explain to your customers why they may or may not need it. MECP and constantly researching products in your field help you give a more complete explanation when people ask a question is no reason not to listen to me.

This topic has been debated several times on here. When I went to put in my Kenwood double din DVD player, the installer told me that I don't need that GM adapter, all I would lose is the door charm. It wouldn't effect any other part of the car. Well other's on here said that it wouldn't even effect the door charm. In the end, I decided to get the adapter. Maybe it was a waste of money, but at least I can rest easy that everything is OK. And so far everything has been OK.

Ughh. The Bose System? I guess that was an option I missed when I bought my car....

Look, in your stock radio you can setup how you want your car to beep the horn when you use your fob and maybe a few other settings but thats it. Change those to how you want before you install your new radio. Swap out your old radio, tap your turn on lead to a fuse tap tapping the sunroof fuse. You will know not loose accessory power, door chimes, the ability to enter your DIC (including resetting your oil).

This is all however based on you have a 05 or an 06 and dont want to keep Onstar.

What Bose system are you talking about? Do you mean the Pioneer system in the cobalt? The Bose system is in the Mazdas.
